Ok, so I've talked it all over with Phil, and we really do enjoy covering songs and giving gifts. We've decided to be in after all.
Rinkydink wrote:Oh no you don't!!!!, you made an excellent gift for me last year so yer not allowed to bow out this year (i'm hoping you's cover one of mine again)so please reconsider your decision.
See, this really is the best part of GOM, knowing that your giftee enjoyed the song you gave them. I'm glad you still like the cover a year later.

Okay Hell Yeahs,
Every year so far, you have gotten screwed in some way while putting up an awesome tune. And every year I feel horrible about this. So, if you guys walk away from GoM, I'll completely understand.
But.... I won't let you go without making an offer.
If you stay, I will hand pick your giftgiver (not at random).
And if you still get stiffed, I will personally make it up to you by covering a whole album's worth of Hell Yeahs' songs (min. 10 songs).
That's my offer.
That's a great offer Niv! If you really want to do that, it's up to you, but we certainly aren't demanding any sort of special treatment. I say let the chips fall where they may. I've had a change of heart and really do feel that it is great to give, and kind of ok not to receive!
jimtyrrell wrote:Plus, as an added bonus, you get a GOM 2007 Pre-gift just for stopping by! It's a cover of my choosing, admittedly, but given last year's list, I hope you find it suitable.
Half A Person (Smiths cover)
Wow Jim! Your cover of a great song by my all time favorite band is fantastic! You have certainly given Johnny Marr a run for his money, your guitars are great, and you're vocals are spot on. Thank you sooo much for going above and beyond! See, songfighters really do end up coming through for us after all!
jack wrote:and heather, if i were you, there's no way i would touch this. as long as i've been around here (eons!), nobody has gotten screwed worse than you and phil with this.
Yeah, you're right, by saying we're in, we
are setting ourselves up for disappointment, but that's ok. We do so enjoy covering songs and giving gifts. I think that if we find ourselves screwed again,
we'll just cover one of our chosen songs!

I know it's not the same thing, but I mean, it's not like the Redmons didn't get a whole bunch of SongLove not too long ago. Not making excuses for people who fold on GoM, just saying...
This is true Frankie, we were so lucky to have a huge group of dedicated and talented songfighters cover Hell Yeahs and Abominominous songs back in April. When Phil and I listened to them, I had tears of joy in my eyes. It was the best gift ever. By no means was I degrading the gifts that were so generously given for the Phil Redmon Lovefest. GOM has been a bitter sweet experience for us and it is it's own entity.
So all that being quoted and said, The Hell Yeahs are indeed in. Here are our choices, one from each decade:
Jailbreak - Thin Lizzy
Take On Me - Ah Ha
Black - Pearl Jam
Boys in the Band - The Libertines
