uh... wasn't the whole of the 70's basically run by music?

I bet Bono and Geldof would love to hear statements like this.

Oh, for crying out loud. Sven, I owe you one. I am going to try this as soon as I get home. But really, but would it be too much trouble to put this in the box?

Whoah! Beer o'clock, Spud? Don't think I've ever seen a double post 8 minutes apart :)

Anyway, yer welcome for the tip. All I had to do was type 'how to print a directory listing' in a google search, after all...

[EDIT] I just tried it, it works perfectly.

Remind her that the song "Helter Skelter" inspired Manson to kill Sharon Tate and it changed her world. Then tell her that you were also listening to Helter Skelter over and over for the past two weeks. 8) << be sure to make this face.

O.K. I tried it and it works, but it's such a hack that it is embarrassing. I hope you mac guys can come up with something better than this. I am willing to go to the other side if you can...

That's very cool. But really, it's a DOS solution, not Windows. Don't they ever update Windows other than the theme songs?

Yeah, they recently polished up all the buttons again and re-hid the functions in new places.

You know what I need from time to time is a method of listing all subdirectories, recursively, in a tree, with the size of that subdir alongside the name. This is what the "du" command does in Unix. I have just discovered that "du" appears in Cygwin, so that will suffice. But in the past I have had trouble finding this function.

I used Frontier a lot years ago. It was cross-platform (uh...Win & Mac) and had tons of great features like this, plus an amazing object-oriented scripting language fully compatible with Apple Events on Macs and COM on Windows, plus a web server and other stuff.

Some of the stuff is open source now, some for purchase. Brilliant tools, originally from Dave Winer, father of RSS and podcasting.

no, no, that's not the right thing at all. this is to count up the size of the directory tree under each subdir and NOT list the files at all. anyway, don't go looking, i have a solution!

So yesterday was Spencer's birthday and we had a blast a Chuck E. Cheese. Here's the birthday boy with his best gift of the night (from us)
Image Image
That's Phil's dad who taught Phil to play guitar, and Phil who will teach Spencer! Spencer's quote while opening the guitar "This is the best birthday ever!". Phil's dad bought him a little Marshall amp and a cord and picks and everything. He started learning today.

Our 2 year old, Allison, plays the drums more than Spencer does, so we figure it could be a White Stripes type of thing... but, it wouldn't be terrible if he learned to play both. He wants to learn a Ramones song on guitar first. We'll see how it goes!

That's a good plan if you're pressed for time. That should take all of what, five minutes?

He will be a better guitarist than I am by the time he's 6.
