I will have to do something for this while my brain is still in songwriting mode.

I only get involved here sporadically but this just sounds too cool to pass up... I think I'm in.

Also just to clear up... its original songs written based on the titles... not covers, right? (maybe both?)

Not covers, just original songs written about or using the titles.

I've got a chorus down for Just As Long As We're Together. Now I just have to make it into a song.

The only titles that titillate me are "soft and wet" and "so blue".

keenly alive and exuberant? I think I'm going to use both titles and write a song about that big burly bear that plays drums in The Booty Chesterfield Trio.

No, I believe it HAS to use the title. Just like normal Songfight, but you get to pick one of however many it was.

I love this idea, and I am totally on board, maybe even more so.

I let this sit for a while, to see what everyone had to say, and here's what I have left to say:

There seems to be a lot of interest. There seems to be almost as much interest in voting. If you fellows want to make this a fun and exciting experience for me and others, I would recommend implementing some sort of voting. If we have at least two entries per title, I would love to see voting and reviews for each title (it'd be like a big nine-title SF week!). A compiled album, with the best of each title, would definitely be an awesome thing to take away from this. What's better than a Prince album? A fake Prince album by Songfighters! Also, since we have the whole month, it seems a few of us will be writing an entire album worth of material. Rabid Garfunkel has expressed interest in doing the entire album. And I'd be surprised if the songwriting powerhouse that is Phil Wages couldn't find time for a mere nine songs during the entire month of November. Also, I am officially committing to making an entire album. So, it would also be cool to have a vote for best overall album. I say you've probably got at least three entries right there, and possibly more.

To kick things off, my new band, Roadworthy, has made their debut recording with one of these titles, Crazy You. [EDIT: The file's still on my ftp, but no more linking from here! Sorry if anyone's day is ruined for any reason.] I hope we're not disqualified for jumping the gun on November. Note that this will not take the place of a Lord of Oats track. I will still record an entire solo album. Hopefully, Roadworthy will record a few more tracks, as will my other side-projects and collaborations.

It's not fun or exciting enough to write a song for other people to listen to ? Tsh, sometimes it's good to just give ...

Oooh, i just had a suitable idea for 'My Love Is Forever' but it's probably transferable to 'As Long As We're Together' seeing how, as in the Abba sidefight, Roymond has stolen my thunder :) *

Curious: are people for this first album planning to do a song 'in the style of Prince', or literally use the title and nothing else? My first instinct was to try and do it the style, but then i thought nah, if I want to hear another dry thin this-honky-got-no-rhythm attempt at his uber-funk sound, I'd go buy Britney's latest, or something. How about other people?

*ps I know you can multiple takes on the same title. but I would much rather have one all to myself.

EDIT: Crap, JR has taken 'ALAWT. Right I'm doing 'My Love Is Forever'. sorry Roymond

i was just going to go with my usual style. Mostly because, no matter what, it comes out like that anyway. I might see if i can slip a high pitched break out in it though.

Ahhh...I see - you are quoting the show's host, Tony Martin - who is a New Zealander. He has a Kiwi accent - not Australian.

Yep, Prince is crazy! I can't wait to see what he tries to do when he finds out about our little project!

For those keeping score, so far I have done a track for Crazy You.
