Wow, that is cheap.
I miss back in the good old days when Nintendo would leave a secret code somewhere that'd let you just unlock everything in one fell swoop (like they did with F-Zero X). I suppose there is such a code hidden somewhere in SSBB but so far I haven't heard of anything. I mean I know it's cheap and stuff but I'm somewhere between casual and
midcore for the most part, habit-wise anyway.

It's cheap, but effective.
It's especially helpful if I am bringing the game over to a friend's house that hasn't unlocked anything. I tried to transfer my save file to his machine via an SD memory card, but no dice. That leaves me having to unlock everything on my machine AND his. So, I'm glad I found a loophole to work with.
Mid-core describes me perfectly too. I am a budget gamer that rarely buys games when they first come out. Having said that, I am counting the days to the release of Mario Kart Wii. Only three days until the April 27th launch, which also happens to be Rachael's birthday.
ROCK!

Oh, huh, this does pretty much the same thing Glenn's thing does only faster. And to make it really fast you can set time to 'fast' which makes the countdown go really quick too.

Hmm. My understanding was that the Special Brawls didn't count in stats towards the number of times you have fought. That's cool if it works 'though.

I have kids so I didn't have to worry about that. Let them play. Let them have their friends over and play and of course play some on my own. Voila. 450 brawls. All hidden characters. Toon Link and Wolf aren't worth the wait though. Do all that work just to get mini Link whose Final Smash is half as strong and Blue Starfox???

Special brawl doesn't affect the fight win stats but it does affect the total fight count, as I found out last night (since I crossed the 100-fight threshold while doing it).

Croshaw is great. If you like PC games and aren't aware, he has the last-page column in PC Gamer.
Niveous, I was trophy hunting for a while, and going after all the challenges too, but I stopped when I realized that's all I was doing. I'm on break from SSBB for a while.

I've enjoyed the trophy hunt. It's made me play the game in fashions I wouldn't have previously (like trying to get a giant home-run or doing a target smash with a character that isn't easy). Plus the trophies are really nice looking.

I've played this game once... since I bought it... I don't know what I'm doing... but I can't tell if I'm winning or not?!

The guys I lived next to in college seemed to play the damn thing forever before unlocking some of the characters they were most looking forward to. They made it all the way through Subspace Emissary, somehow, without finding Jigglypuff, Toon Link, or Star Wolf.
Last night, to my surprise, I unlocked Snake. That seemed awfully fast. To the best of my memory, I'm still missing:
Ganondorf (ick)
Game & Watch (who rocks in SSBB)
R.O.B. (who might just be my favorite character)
Sonic (eh)
Jigglypuff (whatever)
Toon Link (eh)
Star Wolf (damn it, why is he last?)
Man do I love this game. SO MANY CHARACTERS!
Anyone made any good custom stages?

1. Unlocking Snake happens very fast which is fine with me since he's fun to play with. And the Snake easter eggs are awesome.
2. Don't sleep on Ganondorf. The power on his moves is ridiculous. He's like the embodiment of the home run bat.
3. Sonic & Toon Link, eh. That about sums them up.
4. I don't know why Wolf is last. But you have Wolf and Falco, not a big difference except in speed.
5. The people of my house love making sick custom stages. Especially the kinderlings who have drive mixed with a lack of common sense when it comes to building. The result of that mix is often horrifying. "What do you mean you can only smash people from over there!"

So many characters, yes, but so many of them suck. For Sonic to be as hyped as he was is ridiculous. He's terrible.
GENO SHOULD HAVE MADE THE CUT

I just wish Capcom had realized that they had to ask Nintendo to put Mega Man in rather than waiting for Nintendo to approach them. Mega Man would have been awesome. Like an itty bitty Samus, with a dog instead of a grappling hook.

I concur. That would've been epic.

Oh yes.
And I have to admit, I knew Metal Gear Solid was pretty big right now, but was it really so big that they had to completely ignore Simon Beaumont in favor of Solid Snake? I'll admit, Snake is a completely unique character in a way that Simon couldn't have been, but Castlevania has been a Nintendo staple for way longer than MGS has.
I mean, if you can only choose one Konami character...
So I just finally unlocked Game & Watch and R.O.B., who are probably my two favorite characters in Brawl. Their ability to attack even on the way down from a triple jump seals the deal for me. And adding that perk to G&W turned him from a solid character to top-tier, in my book.
I haven't really gotten much mileage out of the WFC yet, so if you own SSBB and want to take me on, PM me and we'll set up a time. Maybe even get a little Songfight! mini-tournament going on.

Yeah, I have mixed feelings about Snake, and I guess Simon would have been a better character, considering the Castlevania series was MUCH more closely-tied with Nintendo than Metal Gear ever was. I mean okay the original Metal Gear was on NES but that wasn't really the same game at all. At least Metal Gear Solid was basically a 3D remake of the NES Metal Gear 2 (which IIRC only came out in Japan) but still, when people think of Metal Gear they typically think Playstation, not NES. The original NES incarnations are essentially just a footnote in that series.
Also, personally I think Snake's final smash is really ridiculously cheap. Not the worst of course (Olimar and Kirby are both way the hell worse on the cheapness scale) but as far as the ones which require a semblance of skill goes it's still pretty much a giant middle finger.
Rereading this post I can't help but realize I am a gigantic nerd who cares way too much about stupid things.

Oh also I haven't even touched SSBB in months. I've hardly even used my Wii except for Wii Fit which got ridiculously boring after a couple weeks. I'm probably going to get Mega Man 9 on PS3 instead of Wii simply because I care so little about the Wii at this point (and also I really like the PSN store system a hell of a lot better).

Word, man. I only use the Wii for the Virtual Console now. But then again, de Blob and Wario Land look kinda fun.
