I'll have to agree with some of Niv's recommendations. Dan Zanes, The Dirty Sock Funtime Band, Milkshake, Lori Berkner, Steve Burns, the stuff on Jack's Big Music Show and Yo Gabba Gabba. But, since we're not supposed to post the stuff our kids really listen to, I won't. My kids are 5 1/2 and 3 and have pretty much grown out of the stuff marketed for "children". They mostly like bands that Phil and I like. Their latest discovery is The Ting Tings, they go crazy for The Ting Tings.

Eric, it appears that you have changed your question.

At first, you wanted to make kids' music, so you were interested in what kids like.

Now, you seem to want to know what kind of music is being marketed to them.

These are really two quite different questions. I would stick with the first if I were you, and if I wanted kids to listen to my music.

I don't think I changed my question. It's basically been: "I'd like to listen to a bunch of kids' music, so I can get a firmer grasp of what popular modern kids' music sounds like. If you don't have small kids, or if your small kids listen to things like Devo or Slayer, your answers will not be helpful to me. Sorry."

I guess I should be more specific. I am interested in what kids' music (that is, music that is marketed to kids) kids actually like. If your kid listens to Devo, Slayer or anything else that is not kids' music, your answers will not be helpful to me.

I thought he had changed his question too, but then I read his original post to make sure I didn't miss something, because Erik's posts rarely contain a logical flaw on this message board, and although he is sometimes convoluted or subtle, he is almost inevitably consistent.

Sure enough, if you reread his inital post, he was always asking about music specifically marketed to kids and not just music that kids like. It's in there:
"If you are a parent with a small kid who listens to music designed for small kids, here are my questions for you:"
If I were a speculative type, I think Heather's post is what he's looking for. Of course, he hasn't mentioned which if any of the posts so far have been helpful, not that he has to, but y'know...

Here are the lyrics for my new song designed for children:

it's pick on erik day!
it's pick on erik day!
come on everybody
I know you know how to say
it's pick on erik day!
poop.

Posts like Heather's are what I was looking for, but I appreciate everyone who answered in this thread.

poop = toop
