Ha! I just got it! Their browser "Ice Weasel" is a crack at Fire Fox, lol.

It's actually a fork of Firefox due to some retarded/autistic religious issues.
(It's complicated but basically, the Firefox logo is trademarked and copyrighted in a way which makes it ideologically incompatible with Debian's zealotry regarding licensing, and since Mozilla refused to change the license on the logo, Debian chose to make their own logo and branding for the exact same browser. It's the exact same code as Firefox; the only difference is the icon. Idealogues can be pretty ridiculous sometimes.)
If you want to really know all the details,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_so ... rebranding (warning: only interesting to nerds who are even more nerdy than I am)

Interesting.
I'm not sure why, but my computer is running faster now than it was with XP. I thought that it would be slower because I'm running on the CD....I thought?
........why wouldn't I just load Linux Knoppix permanently and stop using XP? Why do I need XP, for other software compatibility?
I mean, right now I've got the Linex desktop, all the features, browser, etc. What else do I need?

Linux is a much less bloated OS than XP. It doesn't have much in the way of decent recording software, though, and some of its networking stuff is a bit fiddly.

I don't think I've ever used windows for recording. I've only owned Cubase for my recording.
One thing I've noticed. I can't open Cubase or any other program. I can go look at all of the parts of a program, the dll, exe, yada yada, but I can't open them. I haven't been able to work on my "legend dairy" In The Valley song, all weekend.
I couldn't start moving my files to my external HD until I made room on it. My wife had the thing FULL of pictures and vids. She had one folder using 32gigs! My laptop has around 110 gigs of free space, so I'm moving that folder to the laptop, so I can move files from my crashed HD to the external. I couldn't figure out how to take the files from my crash HD directly to the laptop HD. OY! I started moving the 32 gig folder around 10am and it still has like 210 minutes left, OY X2! I should have ran down to Office max this morning and just bought another external HD. Had I known it would take this long, I would have. Shoulda Coulda Woulda.

Right, Cubase is a Windows *application*, which needs to run under Windows.
If you want to try running it under Linux, there's an app called Wine which tries to translate Windows apps to Linux on-the-fly, but it doesn't work very well for a lot of things.
By the way, when I was in Chicago I picked up an ultraportable 250GB bus-powered external drive for about $100. It might still be on sale. It's made by Simpletech. It's handy because you don't need a power brick for it. Right now I'm copying my iTunes library to it so I can just have all my music at work (not that I expect to use it or anything, but still).

Ah, so there's a reason I need windows right there. I know I can just get Cubase for a different OS, but why if I have Cubase and the XP pro disc. Also, my business customer base is a windows based program also.
Well, I guess I'll just keep my Linux CD for future windows booting issues. I'll miss the cute little Ice Weasel and all of the opposites to Windows. Even the default desk top image is cold lake with snow on the mountains just the opposite of XP's green grass and sunny hills, lol. I like those Linux guys.
That 250gb thingy would have saved me a day of moving stuff around.

No virus or spyware question this time, but I figured I'd ask here instead of making a new thread.
After several little problems on my music computer. I'm reloading XP Pro. But my computer keeps freezing and other times restarting. Everything is so corrupt on my HD I just want to install a fresh copy of XP.
Any help would be great.

Did you reformat the drive first? If not it could be that the drive is failing.

Ok, thank you Fluf, that did the trick. It's now installing XP. Hope that fixes my problems.

Ok, everything is great. Before I cleaned out my HD, I saved my important files and programs on my external HD. I used the manufacturers discs to reload the programs, but I can't find my Cubase program anywhere. I may have loaned it to someone, but no clue. I was able to just copy and paste Cubase from my external HD to my on board HD no problem. But it is a file folder on my desktop. Does anyone know how I can put my Cubase program back on my computer the way it was, with the icon, etc?

In WIndows, apps generally need to be installed and then they'll show up in the start menu. However you can also add an item to the start menu by dragging it there ("it" meaning cubase.exe which is likely to be in something like c:\Program Files\Cubase SE\cubase.exe or whatever)
