No, I'm pretty sure just saying shit over a Mario brothers sounding track will keep people from enjoying your music.
Awwwwww don't go hatin' on 8bit music now
Caravan Ray wrote:Dan The Man Band: If John Lennon really wrote songs like this - I would have been lining up outside of the Dakota Apartments to shoot him too.
...For some reason I refuse to believe John Lennon didn't write at least one song like this, but I can't find anything to back me up. However, in trying to find evidence of my claim I discovered that "Piggies" was actually written by George Harrison. Kind of a shocker for me.
HIGH DISTINCTION Torrentz - Almost skipped through this, thinking meh...nerdcore - but glad I stuck with it. This is awesome. Great vocals. Great lyrics. The last verse in particular had me laughing out loud Weakest Suit - This song is an absolute cracker! And a great performance. Great guitars. Best use of the title by far (though I think "Robot Ninja Zombie Bear" would have been a better stupid title at the end - or did you actually write this for the "Dude & Catastrophe" fight?) Either way - doesn't bother me - Great work!! Rycehat - Yeah! This cool. Love the acoustic guitar Tobins Sprit Guide - This is very cool in a Radio Birdman/The Stooges sort of way
DISTINCTION Soap Yourself - This sort of guitar will suck me in every time. Love the solo. Needs a cool hooky chorus to make it complete James Owens - This is very cool. Like the percussion Minty Handy - Love all the sound effects and backing vox. Great sounding song Johnny Cashpoint - Great melody. Like the chorus and backing vox Steve Durand - One of the best uses of the title for the fight. Great arrangement
CREDIT Stateshirt - Very Radioheady. Not my favourite of yours (your "Crush" a few weeks ago was very cool). Extra points for you though because I love my green cow T-Shirt that came with your CD. Deja Vu - Pretty good. I like the mood Naked Philosophy - Cool chorus. Pretty good, but there is an annoying bass drum in my left ear Pet Squirrel - Pretty good effort
PASS Flvxxvm Florvm - I like the lyrics - but drums and tremolo guitar all sound a little sloppy - but not good sloppy Jonathan Mann - This is not doing much for me. Lyrics silly, but not good silly Berkeley Social Scene - All a bit too jazzy sounding for me. Find the tempo change a bit off-putting too PTP - OK. Not doing a lot for me
MARGINAL PASS DantheManBand - It's a song. It is a Beatles impersonation. But I really don't like it Popular Tablists - It's not completely terrible. But not far from it.
Doh! Totally lost track of time and didn't vote, but here are my notes on each song. Thanks for all the comments for my song.
Berkeley Social Scene
liked the stereo split during the first part
really liked how the song had different sonic landscapes
catchy outro
Caravan Ray
Loved the rhythm of the song
I can imagine a superhero running after the bad guy to this music
another catchy outro
They say if your beginning and ending are good then no one remembers any goof ups in between.
Deja Vu
Organs are scary especially if you imagine a tall slender man with long gray hair, wearing a tuxedo and top hat, playing it
Reminds me a of a They Might Be Giants song.
Eatin' Lunch and Takin' Names
Reminescent of a Fireside Theater sketch
good effort for a rough demo
Flvxxvm Florvm
Awesome bass line. Was it done on a keyboard?
Whirly sounds remind me of Poor Little Birdy by Ween
James Owens
Even though the song has an oriental feel to it, it actually makes me think of something the Moody Blues or early King Crimson would have done.
Do you have all those crazy instruments heard or are they electronic creations?
Johnny Cashpoint
David Bowie all the way.
The keyboard sound is very interesting.
The chicken guitar is cool.
Jonathan Mann
Liked the duo feel.
The lyrics are full of so much detail.
Maxo
Yay for video games.
Minty Handy
Double yay for kazoo.
Great monk choir in the background.
Awesome nonsensical lyrics.
Good use of sound effects
Naked Philosophy
Thinking R.E.M.
I think we've all seen that film before.
pen15
Heavy, then I thought Science Fiction Double Feature.
A+ for fart sucking and pants off boogalooing
Pet Squirrel
A++ for rhyming vomit with honest
Good job slicing up the bear growl. Max Headroom for the win.
PTP
Liked the mellowness of the vocals.
Rone Rivendale
It has a Ween Pure Guava sound to it.
Were you under the influence of Scotch Guard when you recorded it?
Rycehat
Loved the lyrics.
Excellent sounding recording. Everything was placed perfectly.
Made me think of the Violent Femmes.
Soap Yourself
Batman!
Good use of sound effects.
I can totally see this used as a cartoon theme song.
State Shirt
Very interesting chord progression.
Very well done.
Awesome transitions
Catchy tune.
Steve Durand
Very peppy.
For some reason it reminds me of Sad Songs or Saturdays Alright for Fighting by Elton John.
The lyrics and singing remind me of Daniel Johnston.
Stucco Lobster Breadbox
I had that same keyboard growing up. Man I used to create some really deep stuff then.
The Popular Tablists
Awesome distorted organ.
Like how all the musical phrases converge and diverge.
Quirky lyrics
The Weakest Suit
Had something to say about this song but forgot.
Best off topic song in the fight, though I'd never forget Robot Ninja Zombie... what was it again.
Seriously this is a very good song
Tobin’s Spirit Guide
Heavy Metal man! Children of the Grave!
Torrentz
Raise your hands for some nerdcore and titty munching in the house.

The oriental-sounding thing is a SynC Modular-based synth called a "salterium" with some VST octave coupling.
The plucked bass viol that appears during the oriental bits is a Reason NN-19 sample.
The other bass is a 1965 Hofner 500/1 with some VST compression.
The portamento harmony is a custom setup on a Reason Subtractor synth, with some VST octave coupling.
The cheesy percussion (most audible near the end) is from an old toy keyboard by Kawai.
The Latin percussion is a Roland DD-4 drum kit.
The acoustic guitar is a CBS Masterworks, circa 1969.
Buried almost inaudibly in there, as a thickener, is a Degas strat-copy electric guitar with VST stereo enhancement and so much VST distortion it sounds like paper being torn. It's most noticeable in the second verse.
Thanks for asking, and thanks for the review! I grew up to a lot of Moody Blues and King Crimson, and I guess the influences must show.

I actually downloaded the SynC when some folks were talking about how NI had bought it and turned it into Reaktor. Is the salterium an ensemble for it? Where did you find it?
I saw your screenshot post in another thread, and have been meaning to ask you how you connect Reason to Reaper. Do you just have a template track setup for it? Is reason loaded under the IO Controller track?

I'll answer these in the How-To threads (see the "Free plug-ins" thread for Sync Modular info.)
