In a competition like Nur Ein, I think so. He took it way outside the box instead of running it up the center. I think it's a great strategy when you are going up against a band like BSS that has great writing, great vox and great musicianship.

I concur. You could play it safe and try and coast through some rounds with a song that isn't going to amaze or offend.

Eh, I disagree. Every single one of us, every week, was tasked with finding a creative way to present the same title/challenge combination as everyone else. Even a boring song requires creativity to pull off. And honestly, even though I didn't like BSS' songs that much most of the time, it's a real disservice to them to say that the reason Boop Boop won was because he was creative and they weren't.

I'm just saying, "being creative" is a strategy for Songfight the same way that "running really fast" is a strategy for a footrace, or "knowing all the answers" is a strategy for Jeopardy.

When you say it like that, I see where you're coming from. A better word would have been that boop boop took his creativity to a different level or different direction.

So boop boop's strategy of taking his creativity in a different direction is the same as a runner starting different off the blocks and breaking sooner on the final lap.

...I have no comeback for your Jeopardy comparison.

My strategy was to have fun, try and ignore the judges, and use my immunity to take a break. 8)

I think you would agree that being creative is not necessarily the path to winning and that sometimes the most creative people get eliminated early. (Who Fly, are you listening?) I would say that Ben did tap into his creative instincts better than many of the contestants--maybe you could say he was able to "think outside the box" to use a hackneyed phrase--and that certainly impressed this judge.

Of course, it takes creativity to write any song, but for some people (myself included much of the time), the focus is on a tried and true approach, a consistent sound or style, or etc. For Boop Boop, in this competition at least, a creative, sort of border-less, approach seemed to work for him and this particular set of judges.

Maybe "creativeness" isn't the best way to describe Boop Boop's "strategy" but he certainly took an exploratory approach and seemed to assume a lot of different personalities, which was risky but paid off for him.
