Dag! I was so hopeful this time to get more votes than i usually do. Instead I got one. And I'm mostly certain it was me.
How depressing.

Thank you everyone for the kind reviews, even the positive criticism! We started this group in January and we take all of the tips we can get. We're glad some of you liked it, we're glad we know why some of you don't. For our first experience with SongFight, we are very grateful for our win. If you liked this song, you may want to hear the other songs we've done on our youtube,
http://youtube.com/nastylejaa. Such as our hit Oprah tribute and Christmas '96. Our third member was out for this song but we hope to get him on and continue to make songs for SongFight. We love what you're doing!

I've had this conversation here before. Useless exercise because there will inevitably be some 'tard who makes the comment that they can't see how the song is related to the title (when "inspired by" is the requirement).
It is this 'tard's opinion that there will inevitably be some people who ignore the spirit of the competition by stretching the rules/guidelines/implied limits of Songfight to suit their agenda. These are people who may claim to be "forward thinking innovators" unbound by the chains of convention, thinking "outside the box", etc. That philosophy is, in general, a good thing. But in the context of this website -- as I understand it -- the point is to "Write a song based on one of the titles posted", AFTER THE TITLE IS POSTED. To me, that means the LYRIC should be a story/poem that obviously -- hell, even obtusely -- references the posted title. As with anything, there are exceptions. Jim of Seattle's instrumental "Welcome To Windows" is a good example (which won, by the way). But, being a competition, don't you think that there is an element of craft and talent that enters into it? Writing, recording, and posting a good song in a week is not the easiest thing to do... but I'm pretty sure most of the musicians here do just that. They play by the rules.
Some people think that "it's not fair, because I can't meet those rigorous requirements," or "I just want to get some feedback on the song I wrote years ago." Some people take the competition aspect too far, and actively recruit their followers to vote for them, just so they can "win". The rules don't apply to these people. They're special. They'll scam their way through life, often to good advantage. They'll point to loopholes, demand their entitlements, and characterize those who follow the spirit of fair play as 'losers' and 'tards'.
We might as well call this "SongPost".

@paco: thanks! For the record, there's no keyboard on the verses, only heavily effected & volume-pedaled guitar (some of it coming from an acoustic 12-string)
@other kind comments: Thanks! Yeah, the whole thing's a bit ramshackle, and I can hear it in my head about 20 times better than it is recorded here. I always put an effort into structure, as that is important. The drums I was definitely planning on changing up in places (chorus especially), but time ran out. That said, I do love the groove on the verse, and wouldn't change a thing there. Except bringing up the distorted guitar in the background that is a little too inaudible. My roommate's lead guitar is really great in most places, though- reminds me of Radiohead's Johnny Greenwood in places. It's not the smoothest recording overall, but it was a fun collaboration and brought in elements it wouldn't have if I'd done it alone.
