Dear judges,
I know my song has shitloads of clipping on the vocals. You do not have to tell me this.
Love,
Frankie Big Face
OHHhhh, quit going for the sympathy vote! I'm the master of that angle and look where it got me. And before you say "that's not what got you where you are", I'd just like to say F**K YOU!!
...and good luck. You've been consistently making very good listenable music this year.
And good luck to everyone. This is the cream of the crop this year.
Paco, play some flamenco. Kill'em with licks.
Ross, last week you blew me away. That's the real Ross. I want a whole album like that. Dark and real. Like Johnny Cash.
To the super groups.....the judges like you guys, so you must be doing something right.

Heh. No sympathy vote. I really just don't want six reviews telling me I have vocal clipping.

yes, cheerleading is being paraded around as a championship sport, so it seems you're getting a leg up on the competition.

Hey everyone,
Sorry for the lack of updates. It's been a very stressful time as of late (job has been thrown into chaos) but I'm here and will hopefully do some cleanup. As for today's new songs, I'm uploading them now. But I must say, my bad week must have rubbed off on people. There were some distraught e-mails...

Sorry your week has been tough, Niv. I'll risk speaking for many to say we appreciate you running this thing and I think we can all understand when life throws some curve balls.
All seriousness aside, i was really caught off guard this week because I totally blew off Round 5 figuring what with the rapture and all..... Then Sunday came, and I was like, "Crap, I do have to complete a song!"

Altho I am mostly ververy sad about my skanty participation and Quietness; I'm rather alarmed that my id tags all say 'Who Said I'm Dead' which is the songfight! title :S .... dammit

ps. I also think my song is really weird this week. but I listened to it in headphones while going to bed and got nightmares. This could have been due to its effectiveness or it's suck factor. Who's to say?
Is it gauche to post late reviews? I really want to finish mine. It's become part of the whole thing and I have been feeling disappointed and upset this week.

No!
Play it off legit. It's actually really witty and you did it on purpose.

I think DJ is super, but I think you're THOOPER!
...sorry, didn't mean to leave you two out. I was self medicated with rum & ginger ale. Now I feel like poop. I need to eat some tacos.
By the way, good song this week, MG.

tacos and still blaming ginger. this is why Billy's Little Trip is my superband.
I am going to try rum and gingerale. tonight. because I'm worth it.

I seriously had to listen to your "Who Said I'm Dead" entry to make sure it's not the same song.

Actually,
Vernor's ginger ale. Believe me, there is a difference and you pay more, but you ARE worth it.
Usually in the section where they have the alc mixers, like club soda, etc. If your store doesn't sell Vernor's, shop somewhere else and bid that place adieu. lol.

DJ - Being that I have no attention span today... what is going on?

It's a little artistic for my tastes. Well done, but I like it more when you use your piano to make a melody. Your vocals are nice, as is the creepy percussion. Subtlety is nice, although usually lost on me.
Frankie - I think... you should put away your falsetto voice. That said, this is quite good. You capture the vibe of a bluesy soulful song like this very well. Love that chorus.
Merisan - I like your beep beep beeeeep - although the compression on the vocals there is a little painful. I think this is the first song of yours where the laid back vocals feel a bit out of place - they're nice, but I really want to hear some growl in "see you next time" and the chorus. Nice song, very catchy. Kind of reminds me of Liz Phair a little bit.
Paco - You love those minor riffs don't you. Very dark start and then turns into a hippie chorus you'd expect to hear on the oldies station. Very cool, and you somehow turn the menacing riff into a rainbow with percussion and kittens. Love the electric guitar on the chorus (I think that's a rotary effect or tremelo or something? Very hippie. Stop hey what's that sound, everybody look what's going down) And then we're back to killing with the bridge - those vocals could have been a little meaner I think, maybe doubled for power. Very nice, A++ would buy again.
Ross - On the first listen, yours immediately caught my attention. Maybe I'm impatient today. This definitely appeals to my attention span and keeps me happy. Around 0:30 it sounds like you aren't taking your lines seriously, which is a shame because then it feels like a rushed silly song rather than something <<kickass>>. Some harmonies would have been kind of cool there, or some ahhhs. The ending is very emotional and I have a tear in my eye. Nice work, A++.
WreckdoM - Chorus makes me smile. Wish the vocals were up in the mix. Pretty good garage rock. Kind of like the B side to Rambo, though.
WSA - Glenny obviously made this, because I don't know where to nod my head or tap my foot or hum and I can't tell what is going on. The verse vocals are like someone is trying to wallpaper while someone else is spinning a paint bucket. Actually, the vocal performance is quite flawless. Once I get into it, it's a bit nicer than that description implies. The chorus is my favorite part. *Awesome* use of flatline. Let me emphasize that some more: ****awesome****

Ha ha. Fair enough. Sometimes it's hard to get what's in your head on the tape. Or disk. Or whatever. I'd like to think if I had more time (and my good microphone and Joe Meek processor), I could have pulled it off, but maybe not. I took the "risk taker" part of my lyrics to heart and ran with it.
