Only songs that were written for Song Fight are eligible, whether you entered them or not. That makes sense to me-- if you didn't enter it because it sucked, now's your chance to make it not suck.

It would be nice, however, if you were redoing a song that you never submitted originally, that you also provided a link to the original version, otherwise it's just going to sound like a Songfight song you never submitted and we won't get a sense of it having been "rewritten".

So I guess we're not doing the CCR/REM fight? Oh well. Would have been fun to do "Who'll Stop the So. Central Rain." But hey, this'll work too.

One quick question: I'd like to get involved in this, but as of yet, I don't have a solo entry. My usual partner in crime, RG, will probably redo one of his own entries. My remaking one of our submitted collabs should be kosher, right?

d00d, I'm cool with that. And it's half yours anyway. Go smack that ass!

Smack it!

Request for clarification, por favor... written and recorded (but not submitted), or just plain written? Gracias, yo.

I've got a couple of songs that were never entered because of missing the deadline or whatever. I would still like to have them heard and reviewed so I guess here's my chance. I don't want to stop up the plumbing anymore than necessary so I'll keep my questions short and directed to admin only.

1) Multiple entries?
2) As JOS mentioned, will you folks host the original and re-done versions for comparison?
3) Any possibility of these getting added to our archive?

it oughtn't matter: you could go as far as to write a new song based on an old title, and claim you wrote it earlier but never submitted it. who'd know?

1. has never been a problem in the past (for coverfights)
2. i'm guessing no. furthermore:

3. again, i'm guessing no.

These get complicated because the fightmasters ask us instead of telling us. Y'all should just smack us around and make us do your bidding.
Presley or Costello
If this ever happened, I should think it would be Presley vs Costello, where you take a song from one and do the style of the other...

Not sure what's complicated about it. I already told you what the theme is. How much more of a smacking around do you need?

For the record, coverfight is pretty flexible. Remake as many of your songs as you want, what do I care? Of course if they suck we'll ridicule you.

No we're not hosting your remade song, unless you have no space and grovel thoroughly. And then you'd probably have more luck asking Spud for some space on Songhole.

I'd know if I did that. But then, my sense of right and wrong's a bit skewed, heh.

I'd be willing to front some space on my site for anyone not endowed that way. I'm not sure that there is any tune that I want to redo. After an SF entry I usually sigh with relief that it's over and I get to move on. I wonder if Redcar would want to redo one of their tunes. Maybe some without drums could have some added. .... uh actually they could all use redoing.... this might be kind of cool.

What if it's a song that was going to be entered but never made it for whatever reasons? Does this also count. I know I have a good few that never made it cuz of time restraints and the like....... huh JB do they count huh huh?

Since the deadline isn't until June 1st, is there a cut-off date for songfight titles that are eligible?

Are any of the upcoming titles going to be eligible?

dude why? the point is, if you weren't happy with a song you already did, you can re-do it now. why would you write a new song now, and not be happy with it, and re-do it?

Well, it's also to do a song in a different style than you originally did, regardless of whether you were satisfied with the original recording or not.

Or for us veterans, we can go back to a song we cringe to now and make it ok again.

Or, it's an opportunity to ruin a song that is absolutely perfect.

jb wrote:I think it might be interesting to have a coverfight where we cover OURSELVES. Take one of your own songs and do it over like you're covering it. Except this time you have like a month to work on it, and the song is already written and stuff.

*shrug*
You know, this is something I've been wanting to do for a long time (I think I'd even posted something titled like "rocker, cover thyself" on the old boards though those are totally gone now). So I'm glad I happened across this thread. :)

June 1 seems a bit early, though; aren't CF deadlines usually around one month? (Not that it makes a difference for me, since I'm going to be losing access to all my recording gear on the 25th or so for a month anyway.)

yeah and you usually have to figure out how to play someone else's song, too. this time you ought (theoretically) to already know that much, at least.
