Just as I was thinking this has been the best Nur Ein ever as far as drop out rate goes. Round 4 turns out to be the killer.

that is just too bad. I have been enjoying the hell out of all you guys who are going.

I was going to use my immunity because of Family related stuff but I felt really bad doing it because I felt if I possibly could write at all then I definitely should.

It's not a Normal song though. I thought I'd get any woosh-woosh out of my system. Here's hoping.

... this has to be a first in Nur Ein history. We have 3 drop-outs so far?

Next time tell me sooner so I don't work so hard. ;)

At least whoever is eliminated will get to suffer the humiliation alone.

I've been meaning to say that I'm enjoying the artwork this year. Not sure who's making it but it's good.

Boffo Yux Dudes have been kicking around ideas with me, trying to spawn inspiration. Getting a clear idea down has certainly helped.
Thanks for letting us help you spawn, MG. (Yeah, I know we got kicked to the curb in round two, but we don't go away, do we?) The lyrics and music you put together sound great to me; ALL the entries I skimmed are very cool so far. I guess that's why y'all have made it so far, eh? Good luck, folks...

Glad you are enjoying it. J$ did all the art except this round, which I did.

1. WSA: About time you blokes delivered.

2. BMG: The guitar groove and vox are so cool. And then a huge hook. You are so good at this.

3. FBF: Disclaimer - I hate Randy Newman with a passion. This is a beautifully written song - but not my thing.

4. ROSS: Looking for the cute sprog vote. Pathetic. Especially since Sierra sounds like she can follow instructions. Harriet goes too free-form jazz when I ask her to sing.

5. CHOCOLATE CHIPS: As soon as the Wikipedia generated lyrics started I though - Sweet! - I'll beat this dude! But then the "time machine" stuff started - and that was pretty cool. This is dumb but very clever. I like it

6. MG: Like with Frankie - this is quality product, but just not my thing. I like the "aahhhs" - the are nice.

7. ADD: You took the "tell the Armarda story from a non-English PoV" approach I did! I approve. I like the "Fire over England" line for the eager Spanish sailors. Points for historical accuracy. The tempo change gets a bit noodley. But why did it conclude that Elizabeth would be "the Great" by the people about to whoop her arse? Was that a time shift and the jazzy bit was the Battle of Gravelines? It mentioned the storm and fireships so I suppose so. - but no, you are still setting sail tomorrow - I am confused.

and

Genevieve Johnson and The Chiefs:

Yes, I am a history nerd, and I loved the fact I could link this to the family history I have been researching and to a place I visited last year. Time contraints left this way underdone, I wanted a Pixies meets Sonic Youth guitar thing happening - rather than the more obvious Pogues style treatment for such a song. My lead guitar is wimpy sounding and I wanted a big "childrens choir" for the "Regina Gloriana" bits - but at 2am - decisions had to be made. Oh well...

Sorry - but we have had all 3 Toy Story movies playing here over the last few days and that is just what it reminded me of. The jaunty piano did it.

And apologies to DJRD: (I was concentrating on the main game):

Piano is slightly off time but your vox are just so great. And this is a pretty good stupid song. You don't need immunity.

Haha. Yeah, it's fine. I understand. If I was going to compare my song to something, I'd probably think of the jauntier Beatles stuff like "When I'm Sixty-Four" or "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" (which I also don't like), but I understand the comparison. I was going for cute--tugging at the heartstrings of all those judges with children. :)

Haha. I don't think those are the judges I have to convince because they still are children.

@CR It's gratifying to know my attempts to hit the historical notes more or less worked. I think you are being overly literal about the end, but perhaps you'd be more forgiving if you enjoyed the music more. I can accept that. Thanks for the review.

Also @CR: I hope the elimination decision doesn't come down to who has the more sweeping Spanish Armada song. Good work, dude.

Just listened through to the rest of the songs - I liked most of them and they are all good. A couple of them reminded me a lot of the Decemberists. Mine was a bit of a rush job (done in one day), I'm going to remix it and probably re-record some parts of it for my Infotainment! Educational Songs by The Chocolate Chips album ;) I am pleased that I was able to earworm myself a bit with the "soon you'll say, you've seen the queen, i'm coming now in a time machine" line. Hopefully it's able to eat into some judge's brains as well, otherwise ... see ya next year!
