So I just got back from the first night. Oh boy, fun times. Everyone's very nice, but I was kinda reserved tonight and hung back. Lots of people. Songfighters dancing is a very special experience to see. I got some photos of the various people that played, and then some of dancing and other stuff. One more day of rock to go.

Whoo!!! Tonight was awesome. I enjoyed kicking the whole thing off with my first ever solo performance. Everybody was great, and I got to meet many more SF!ers. Tomorrow the rock continues! I can't wait for the live fight.

You guys are so impatient :P

Some of the names might be wrong, and most of the photos are fuzzy due to me being at the back and not wanting to use the flash every time and blinding the performers. But either way, there are photos. Lots of people were taking photos so I'm sure more will appear.

I also want to thank bjam for posting the link to her pictures from last night. I can't wait to see more from today. BTW, is anyone video taping, or recording the performances?

Yeah, I wonder about that too .. The recordings from the live fight will be in the white fight next week, right?

(And thanks Bjam. It's just like being there, only I won't have a hangover tomorrow.)

Man, Frankie Big Face is great. I'm listening to and recording him as I type this. I missed Bjam, and I didn't get anyone from last night (although Jazz videorecorded it) but I should be recording tonight.

And then it was finished :P

Well it's... what? 2:30? 3? Something stupid like that. The acoustic set went very well, as did the 'rock' set tonight. And of course the live fight was... interesting :P The winner's song was very good. (I personally went for a nerdcore/romance song, but y'know, it's all good.) Afterwards many handshakes and hugs were exchanged as most people went back to hotels or homes or houses or wherver the heck they're staying. But a group of us went over to some restaurant/bar place and had a good time there.

http://www.livejournal.com/users/bethanyjam/5085.html Be thankful for those photos. It's almost 3:30 and I had to try and remember who everyone was. Not an easy task when you've met at least 20 different guys who all look the same in two days :P (Also I didn't get everyone's photos during their sets, and for the acoustic my camera was crapping out until Frankie's set, which was the last one. It just makes the acoustic set that much special ;))

(Also the t-shirts we're getting are freaking awesome. Way to go C Hack! And way to go everyone that came! Woo! Way to go everyone that would have come if not for work, school, money, family, apathy!)

Gossip, gossip, hmmm... Sober almost gave me a heart attack on Friday night by rocking so hard that he rocked my keyboard off the stand and onto the floor. Jim Tyrrell, Shane of RxW and I "experienced" the Boston subway... or at least the lack thereof, at one in the morning.

I managed to capture most of the performances on video. I missed bjam & stueym's acoustic set (slept more than I should have, grossly misjudged travel time), but they were good enough to repeat a few songs later at the City Club. I taped just about everything else, although Friday night I was still figuring out what the hell I was doing so it remains to be seen how much is usable.

Overall, this was very awesome. I feel kind of bad about not playing, and not hanging out more, but I'm glad I was able to contribute by videotaping and putting up flyers. Hopefully I'll be able to attend and play a set next year.
Let cake eat them.

man, what a great time. i want to be everybody's best friend.

i don't know what's more impressive: the fact that most everybody here is a great performer or the fact that it really (instantly) feels like a big family reunion when we meet in person.

Please don't forget about the Song Fight Gallery. Photoshop and crop your pics nicely, then put them up in the Gallery. This will help people get to see all the pictures there are without having to dig around on the board to see if they missed anything.

JB

P.S. I had a great time, everyone is very cool, and I can't wait for next year.

P.P.S. I predict Bjam will win a fight in the next year.

Still recovering...

So much amazing music. What can I tell you...

Shane/RxW: Top of my list of who I was excited to meet. Three songs was not nearly enough. Sorry the Peanut Butter Burger did you in.

Craig/Starfinger: Nice nice nice. Craig is a BIG guy and also amazingly sweet. He transforms like the Hulk as soon as More Than Soup starts. Again, three songs were not nearly enough.

Boltoph and Tonetripper: Total surprise favorites for me. These two guys played amazing acoustic sets on Saturday night.

JB/Jefff/Frankie: Always a pleasure to spend time with these gentlemen. Amazing musicians/performers each and every one.

Ben/bzl/charcoal: Thanks for putting this together. The venues were all perfect. Double thanks for picking me up and letting me sleep on your couch.

Sam/Erin: Thanks for being great friends and partners in music. It was a blast being with you at a Songfight live.

Futureboy: An unexpected companion on this trip. Thanks for playing along and letting me play with you.

Octothorpe: Thanks for giving me a shirt and nickname (The K). It is just fun to play with you. I was suprised that the entire band was there. (SEVEN?)

Evan/Adjuster/Landfills: Solid performance as ever. No one got us on the octogonal dance floor like you.

Bjam/Stueym: Thanks for letting us play your guitars. You are very nice people and it was a pleasure to hear you perform.

Jim Tyrell: Wow man, you were great. Loved all your performances. Definately a highlight.

Jim/Sober: Good to see you. Thanks for playing with me and letting me play with you.

Hoblit: Always a pleasure my friend. It was cool to see you play solo.

Roymond: There is a light that radiates from this man. Excellent set and live fight song as well.

fluffy: Excellent sets, both of them. You get better every year. I was especially impressed with your playing in Octothorpe.

Sleasy D/Dre/Jazz/Etc...: To all you folks that I just met quickly but didn't play, it was great to meet you and I hope you perform next year.

If I forgot anyone, I am sorry. I'm still pretty beat.

Be well,
Ken

It was a good fight with many worthy performances, but in the end C. Hack was our winner, with Jim Tyrrell coming in right behind.

Right on!!!!! Yeeeeehaaaaaaww....... it was so cool to finally put a face to all your names on the boards and the music you all write and record. Great performances by everyone. I had a blast!!!! Coolest people. Songfighters. I'll be there next year for sure. Can't wait to see the video. I didn't wake up til 11:00 this morning in Boston after getting totally happered with Boltoph. Swam in a Massachusetts lake today and the landscape is very similar to Northern Ontario. I'd swear I never left home. Sweet.

Before I forget, (100% cotton) T-Shirts can be had for $15 a piece (we wanted to make them cheaper, but the print run is too low)! PM me or paypal me at jcsehakatrootrecordsdotorg. They come in sizes up to XXXL, and I'll post gifs of what they'll look like as soon as I get to my laptop. Remember, they're limited edition! Once I put the order in, you won't be able to get one ever again! I mean really, if you don't get one you'll be forever tortured. The next time you ask someone out and get turned down, you'll think "Would this have happened if I was wearing a Songfight! Live T-shirt?" Please save yourself the mental anguish -- buy one today.

I have to wait four months till 2006 then? Damnit. :P Thank ya though. It was fun hanging out with everyone. I'll crop/resize my photos and put them in the gallery.

We just got back from the looooong journey home. I detest driving now. Well, being a passenger. Although we found a Tim Hortons in Conneticut which was a pleasant surprise.

So, what, 12 months and counting tiiiiill... SFL Cali? SFL Spokane? SFL Alaska? SFL Hawaii? Actually, I don't think I want to see some of the SFers in beachwear...
