Oh man! I actually was on the right track! I was researching At The drive in because the first thing I thought of when i read the clue was the mars volta, and I knew that two of those members came from At The Drive In and dude had an afro. Damn me for only looking around for a few minutes!

Lots of people were on the right track. I got a few guesses of DeFacto (another Cedric band with dead members) and Phantasmagoria (another Cedric band with dead members) but only Des got FODE.

Man ... I actually had time to look for the answer for the immunity challenge, and then after I found a bunch of clues I found out that I was out of the round.

I've been on the road since Friday afternoon, and have just now gotten a look at the round three title/requirements.
This would be a good week to have immunity. Heh. I wouldn't have gotten that trivia question though, I can tell you that.
So, to work! Don't know where I going to find female vox yet, but that's why they call it a challenge.

Yeah, I get the impression this challenge is harder for some of us than others. Some folks seem to have a wife/girlfriend etc... that sings, others of us are having to look a little farther. Challenge indeed

ever heard of sampling? i'm sure there are plenty of female vox loops lying around waiting to be plopped into someone's mix. even female harmony vocals (oohs and ahhs) shouldn't be that hard to come by. google is your friend.

collaborating? there are females around the board. around your house maybe. in your class, at your job, walking down the street. remember, more than half the world is female.

and i did say you can fake it if necessary. it just needs to be good.

if it was easy, it wouldn't be called a challenge.

Jack, slow down. I was just saying - we differ in our resources here. I have no problem with the challenge and was just engaging in a conversation about it.

I also submit that the type of resources we use may also be driven by how the challenge and title drive our creative process. I for one was immediately taken down a creative path for which a true, live, customizable female singer would be best. For others, samples or loops might work best. I prefer an approach of building the challenge into the song, rather than the other way around (i suspect most of us do). In this case, the availability of female vocalists becomes central.

This will end my comments, too. I gotta go get checked-in for my sex change.

i think like spud mentioned earlier, i'd like to keep the challenges somewhat open to interpretation, and it's not like i'm going to be paying more attention to monitoring of meeting the challenge than how good is this song. it's like driving without your seatbelt on. you might get dinged.

c'mon guys, of all the challenges so far I think this one has been the most open. "Opposite Sex Vocals", doesn't nessessarily mean vocals done by a member of the opposite sex. What about vocals written in the context of the opposite sex? Case in point.

Questions, o lauded judging panel: In which round are we dispensing with the immunity challenge? And will the "winner gets immunity" apply right up to the penultimate round?

Tangentially related: If Leaf enters a song this week, shouldn't he be eligible for immunity next week too? I noticed last week the judges didn't bother ranking Thornberry, but his song was good enough that it could have changed the rankings at the top.

We will review, but not score, the person who gets immunity, if they choose to record a song for the stage in which they have immunity. Immunity applies for one stage only. Immunities won't apply for the final stage.
