Why Do We Lie?

-this is an interesting article exploring why we lie..including to ourselves. I hadn't thought about it before, but it's a good question. This article pegs it to evolution...lying gives liars the edge for survival.

And picking up girls.

I didn't want to start a new thread for it, because I feel weird when I do that for dead people. But Thurl Ravenscroft just died, and I wanted to say that he was really cool and that I was sad when I found out. He was the guy who sang "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch", and sang on a few other Dr. Seuss cartoons. He was also the voice of Tony the Tiger.

Scientific American MIND is an awesome magazine i highly recommend. its a shame its a quarterly magazine.
But at least there’s always the monthly scientific American.. aaaahhh.

Here's to my favorite cliche' "Nice guys always finish last" and the above is exactly why.

This is the way I lie whenever I do. Most of the time it's to spare other's feelings by ommitting content that I know would otherwise upset them. Not to say I have never lied any other way...I just know that I try not to and whenever I do, even if my intentions are wrong, this is the way I do it. This includes 'not telling' someone when you have done something wrong. Which again, is usually my form of deception whenever I'm bein' a butt.

Not trying to toot my own horn but I lack this ability somewhat. I'm sure that I have lied to myself on occasion but my lack of this 'talent' is always mistaken for lack of self confidence. I rarely lie to myself therefore when I accurately display to others of how 'I think I am' they often tell me that I should have more confidence in myself. I have plenty of self confidence, I just don't represent myself beyond what I actually amount to. I lie to myself ALOT when I'm drunk. I decieve myself into doing a lot of things when I've been drinking.

Tomorrow (June 1) is the 44th anniversary of FM Stereo radio transmission. "this method of modulation inherently distorts without any compensating advantages whatsoever" ... gotta love it!

I'm moving today. I'll have an entire room dedicated to the studio, with freedom to make major alterations to the room itself (i.e. making holes in the wall so my PC can be in another room), I'll have more free income, more freedom to make loud noises, and an acoustically nice room to start out with. High ceilings, nice closet for vocal booth, etc. I'll be spending money with the auralex folks getting some real acoustic foam stuff, too.

Moving sucks, though.

No thank you. It's just too new (and expensive).
My philosophy for cars is buy them cheap, run them into the ground and buy another one. They almost always last the year(ish), and means you get to try a lot of brands and models, which is good... Although it generally precludes owning Porche or Ferrari, I live in hope.

clearly chex are better. they pack more natural flavor than rice krispies. the only downside is that they don't snap, crackle and pop...but they don't get soggy as fast as rice krispies. plus they promote diversity with their different colors.

When I worked at The Flying Biscuit in Atlanta I experienced tourettes for the first time. I didn't know about tourettes before that day.

I was just cooking away and all of a sudden I hear a guy yelling out random curse words and phrases much louder and over the entire crowd in the dining room. Everybody around me had already known about the guy and didn't let on that there was anything going on. I'm looking around to see other people's reaction and nobody in the kitchen or the wait staff 'seemed' to notice. Even the diners seemed oblivious to his presence. I did notice a couple of people glancing his way but for the most part life was going on completely normal around this. I finally had to ask "WTF"?!!? And a couple of the cooks smiled and politely explained it to me.

It was really weird.
