What if you hated the first OKGO album? Just... avoid this one too?

That OK GO! music video floating around the Internet for A Million Ways to Be Cruel is hilarious. I love it. Is that okay?

...do you like bands like what I mentioned? It doesn't really matter if you liked the first or not. I only brought it up because some (like me) might buy based solely off of liking the first, which is a bad idea.

Oh, I loved the backyard video. All one take... it's very impressive. I still like the band, just not this album.

I've heard a lot of my friends say this and I don't get it. I'm no big Franz fan, but every song I've heard by them has been upbeat, catchy and unique sounding: hardly my definition of boring. However, my friends are just being snobs when they criticize Franz (or most popular bands, for that matter); I trust that you actually do think FF is boring.

Don't tell the hipsters, but I like Franz Ferdinand too. I saw them live and, even though they were playing the songs pretty much the way there were on the CD with no real surprises, they were pretty cool. Beatle Bob got on stage and danced with them and I pogoed in the audience with an old Scottish woman. That's pretty cool. Their singles are invigorating when comared to the majority of things hitting the charts. I approve of this cheesy mod thing that's happening or whatever you want to call it. Again, don't tell the indie kids.

What I'm listening to a lot of now is John Zorn. Henley sent me some and it's amazing crazy-jazz. Way to go, Zorn.

PS: Another memorable moment from the FF show was when somebody got really excited and screamed "Franz Ferdinand started World War II." I thought that was stupid-funny.

PPS: Another band that abbreviates to FF is Final Fantasy which is not so much a band as it is one man (Owen Pallet or however that's spelled). I've been listening to some live recordings of his new songs and I really like them. I thought the guy and violin thing might be very limited and get boring after a while, but he is a creative songwriter and he's continuing to make emotionally compelling music with titles that reference video games. Way to go.

Luke sent me all of Naked City which is flooring me. He also gave me two choice tracks off of Taboo and Exile. Wowee.

While I'm cluttering the boards, I've also been enjoying some Henry Mancini. I was pleased to discover that the theme for The Pink Panther was composed by somebody who made great music all the time. It was just the treasure I needed after the shattering discovery that the composers of the theme music for Inspector Gadget are responsible for every bad theme song in the 80s too and are the creators of The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers franchise. boooo.

At least the Inspector Gadget theme is based on a classical piece. I forget who wrote it, but the title is something about The Hall Of The Mountain King. Perhaps this will lead you to another pleasant musical discovery.

heck yeah! if you haven't heard Super_Collider, that's some weird electronic stuff that he's involved with. not that it really compares to Multiply, but it is also awesome.

oh yeah, naked city is awesome. other great albums by him are "the big gundown", which is ennio morricone.. uh .. "covers", i guess. and "Spillane" which is like a noir detective soundtrack. also his klezmer jazz band Masada is some fantastic jazz, particularly "Live in Sevilla (2000)".

I love random shuffle.

I just had Jack Shite singing "stepup", which segued sweetly into "Monkey wrench", followed by the pikes doing "Twister", which was followed by "atticus", (I think either Glen or Jack..it doesn't have artist in the info column...but it's a good tune... (so long atticus, a job well done...) and then that led to the ROCKIN "zombie son" by abominominous... killer.

Well, I mean, it's ok I guess. It's not really an abandonment as much as it's them trying to sound like they used to, which is kind of a shame. Jamie's still depressed I guess.

Funny Story

I love that song as well. I happened to catch that fight and wrote some reviews while stuck in a hotel room in Chicago.

After listening to it again I was convinced it was CCS under a sock puppet name. After the Spinto Band show here I asked him about it and got a dumb look, so I looked them up.

Turns out it's some dude from New York who has a couple albums out. His Season Finale was actually written a year ago. Somebody sent it in when the title was up.

Even though someone tried to get over on SF, I highly recommend the entire album that the song is on.
