it wasn't a flashcard, but joseph arthur was selling CDs of the show I saw immeidately following his show. i thought it was pretty interesting, but I didn't buy one.

Not really, but i think other people made much better points, particularly erikb. This is a good discussion.

I agree. If Front did take himself seriously, he has the potential to become very successful...uh...famous.
Well, I love Frontalot, and he works on what I would call a "pro" level. But his sound is very niche. Same with MC Hawking. There's a dedicated audience for it, but they are spread way out all over the country. So for example if the "just go tour" mechanism were the only way to make money at music, they would both be sunk.
Lemme just tell you, I do a lot of this free giveaway sort of thing, and it is VERY VERY DIFFICULT to generate interest in a project. Mild interest for a day? No problem. Sustained interest over a period of time? Difficult. Where you're asking for money? EVEN MORE DIFFICULT.
I think that was my point. Or points. I'm confused...
He has the
stuff to be successful. The attitude, a pro-level production attitude, and a way with self-promotion. I'm not saying MC Frontalot, specifically, would be a world-wide phenom. But
He could focus those energies into the persona behind (or in front of) a successful career.
And the other point stands...it's
hard work. To be successful is hard hard work. However you achieve it, a flash-in-the-pan is often just luck, but to
sustain it is very hard and ultimately has very little to do with cranking out good music.
Now I have to italisize some more.
Here ... and ...
here. I feel better.
