so which one will Bort handle this week?
the teal one?.. or the black one?
(for some reason I'm guessing it'll be one of those two)

A slow night at work, and I go nuts and make a cover. Sure hope I chose the right Meach. I mean, it's gotta be, it's even in the Black fight. Can't get more morbid than that. Right?
Wow, I whine a lot before coffee in the morning. Insecure bastard, back to your suckling.

I thought "on the meach" meant like.. stalking, skulking or hiding?
so naked on the meach would be like... a very shy exhibitionist?

Heh, good one. Can see repurposing Bigfoot footage for that one

To the asshat Lars A. Doucet: Are you soliciting for freelance work or submitting a cover?

aw.. i was thinking with four titles i wanted to toss my hat in for some cover art this week too since it's been a lillie while...
i had (in my opinion) a pretty interesting take on the 'meach' one ... but it looks like that one's already kinda popular. i think i'll try throwing it together anyhow and see what happens. then maybe if something doesn't get any submissions by monday night or whenever the update happens i'll see if i can whip up some of my (almost) world famous last minute cover art garbage (see 'the gutter' or 'start over' for more details).

Bort, your covers are consistently good, and sometimes great. But too much they've got one little thing wrong with them -- photoshop filters. Here's a rule of thumb: never use a photoshop filter unless you have to. If you're thinking "what can I do to dress this up a bit?" and you find yourself hovering over the "filter > artistic" menu, STAY AWAY!
(But otherwise, great stuff)
Murphy, great drawing (even though it doesn't have anything to do with the title). Please do more. What's your process? Pencil and ink on paper, scan and color in PS?

since Murphy is handicapped (no internet connection at his house) I'll go ahead and relay your question to him... (actually, since I usually look over his shoulder when he's drawing, I can answer it anyway, but he'll like to know that some people took interest in it.. he's one of those self-stabbing artsy types... never happy with anything he does)
He sketches it all out real quick.. making the important lines stand out a bit more.. scans it, prints it out in a VERY bright blue, inks that, scans the ink and colours it. Quite an amazing process to watch... makes me wish I could draw.

The drawing is very nice. It's good work.
In general I'd like it to have a bit more relevance to the title, but the quality makes up for it somewhat

I like the use of "handicapped" to describe "without an internet connection." Heh.

Just to let you know I didn't use an "Artistic Filter" in the prep school cover. I too avoid a majority of the filters. I do happen to use Noise, Blur, and Sharpen. Hoenstly, I agree that the "rain" I attempted to add to the background was a point I would not have added looking back. But I also know that I only spent about an hour making that cover, if that. I spent more time on Mojo and the body.
Don't just assume I'm a filter junkie... Thanks

Haha, didn't mean to insult, you know I like your work. And of course SF covers aren't supposed to represent your top professional efforts. I just seem to remember seeing you use those artistic filters in the past (I could be wrong, maybe I'm thinking of someone else), and thought I should mention it, for the pubilc good
The insane extreme of this is when you go to a gallery (like, a real Art gallery on Newbury st.) and you see "digital art," which was nothing more than some moron slapping a watercolor filter on a photo of the beach, selling for actual money.

Hmmm... guess I'd be the the filter junkie, here. So bring on that sub-thumb sized rod, heh. More of a layer effects junkie, than a filter, 'struth. Most filtered layers get screened way back over a dry layer so's to give the hint without beating you over the head with it.
Now, the Naked cover, that's just a fontstrosity, heh.

Fontstrosity! More like a Fontastrophy. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should buddy.

I didn't realize until this moment that all the submitted artwork for the current fights is available... unlike the songs. Neat! This way you can tell if nobody has submitted art, and do so yourself.

What
would Lady PFM say?
Anyway filters are great, as long as you use the fade function judiciously and apply them to selected areas. Blanket filters are bad.

Hmm, I wasn't planning on doing anything for any of the fights this week, but maybe I need to be in this one... or maybe Lars would be willing to donate it for my next greatest hits collection, if it doesn't get picked as the official one... hmm...

see that's my fault. I sorta tell him what to draw, or he doesn't get shit done.
There was relevance, I just can't seem to remember it..
Well...ok, the guy pointing was supposed to have "Aspartame built this body" on his shirt... but it was omitted for some reason. granted, it's still very weak... but relevance would have almost been present... I guess.
No, ok... still no..

Okay I'm an ass. I have to apologize first for not only fucking up my first submission for cover art, but for proceeding to submit for a second fight and then fucking that one up as well. Hmmm...uploading be tricky man....anyway, I will retract and say that maybe Lars Doucet has a right to be cocky, he got his entry in right the first time.
