This is out of ignorance. She finds that her kid is INVOLVED with some bad apples on MySpace and she blames the whole site. I hate that.
If she'd step back and go to the front of the site and see what its REALLY about...she'd find that her kid needs a spanking...not the website itself.

Are you offering to provide said spanking M. Hoblit?

This mother isn't saying the website needs changing, she's just using the media to alert other clueless parents that myspace is a site where people can post nudie shots of themselves taken with their cellphones.

"The website says it's a place where you can meet your friend's friends, but this mother disagrees."
"She said the website, which was originally designed for aspiring musicians, has turned x-rated."
Thats why I said what I said...but another quote illustrates your point.
"A local mother wants to raise awareness about the blog spot with more than 32-millions users..."
Writer's fault.

i think myspace will typically take down pictures with nudity, but it's so hard to filter that when you have 32 million users.
it's a good place for teens to be annoying attention-whores.

It's weird when you find really quiet kids at school's MySpaces and they're all showing their bikinis and abs and giving sex glares to the camera. Freaks me out.
Also, the kid's 13, they're gonna be looking at far worse things than MySpace photos soon enough.

So, I finally joined the fun, I don't know why, but peer pressure took...a year. There's already some kid from MA called roymond. Bastard!

So, sell me on myspace. I see a cluttered website with yucky ads. OK, lots of cuties, but do songfight people get a lot of value from this? Or is it mostly a social network (yeah, there's value there I suppose)?

it's mostly social, man. it's also mostly goofy. but it's kinda fun, and it's a better way for normal people to have a web presence than like, geocities. there's an "event" interface, there's the "bulletin" thing to send mass email to all your friends, there's the friend thing, there's the comments on your page, there's the private messages, there's the pictures, there's linking a song on your page, there's taking the goofy tests, there's modifying the look and feel of your page.
myspace lets you stand up and say "this is me", for better or worse. it's all about communicating, and helping you to do so in a mostly painless way.
as for the kids letting their inner freak flags fly on myspace... well... that's what the Internet lets you do, y'know? kinda like songfight in a way.

I hate that about the internet. I swear, communication will KILL society. One day, you'll see...
