She's A Lady - Tom Jones
Something a little older, something a little cheesy, and something a little awesome.
Better - Jason Mraz
Jason Mraz is having my babies. That's about all I have to say for this one... (I don't expect anyone to pick this, but if they do I'll be happy. Now I've reverse pshychologically forced you into wanting to do this haven't I? Eeeexcellent Damn, now you're gonna not accept my reverse psychology. Damnit.)
Friends In Low Places – Garth Brooks
Country makes me happy.
Frug – Rilo Kiley
Pretty.
So you've got an oldies, a personal favourite, country, and then modern stuff. All pretty well known songs/artists I think, but I can provide mp3s in PM if you want them.
Heh, enjoy.
(And of course I reserve the right to change my mind, but I probably won't. Sorry.)

At the risk of speaking in the third person, The Cow Exchange is in!
This year's picks:
Don't Bring Me Down by Genius. It was on my list last year, and here it is again. I love it, and think some melodic-rock songfighters could record a great flavor of this.
First Things First by Phantom Planet. A bit loud, and infectious as hell. And we all know how infectious hell is.
Chicken Wire by The Pernice Brothers. Obligatory depressing, slow song.
Trips by Songs To Wear Pants To. A short burst of energy. If you're not comfortable with the other options, or for whatever reason yearn for something short and strange, this is your cop-out song.
I can provide full samples of any of these when the time comes. Otherwise, iTunes is your friend.

actually , now this is weird, i think this is some sort of signal... i've heard gary numan's "cars" three times, separately, today, so i'm switching one of my songs to that. also to commemorate me ordering a new prius today.
see edited post above for updated list.

Reflecting my extremely diverse musical interests please find my reccomendations for my GOM. I am sure there is enough diversity in the sugestions for the Songfight! community to make a stab at one of the below.
I will try to get these up and hosted ASAP for those who don't know them and will edit the links back into this posting. Have fun my friends.
Jim Reeves – He’ll have to go
One of the first songs I can remember moving me as a kid and love it to this day
Soft Cell – Tainted Love
Oh happy drunken days of dancing with girls while I still could. This song filled the dance floor at every party I went to in my youth
Steve Earle – Copperhead Road
My air mandolin/guitar favourite of all time plus an awesome storyline to it
Dirty Rotten Scoundrel’s (broadway soundtrack) – Great Big Stuff
This song is awesome and makes me want to shake my booty.....just ask Bjam...it's not a pretty sight...but still an awesome contemporary Broadway showstopper.

I'd jump at the chance to do Cars or Tainted Love.
Here is my "wish" list:
<A href="

<A href="
http://www.pats-lies.com/songfight/GOM2 ... mp3">To Wish Impossible Things</A> - The Cure
<A href="

<A href="

Not quite making the cut were The Police's "Deathwish" and Bloodhound Gang's "I Wish I Was Queer So I Could Get Chicks"

ok. I wanted to do this last year...
Now, my new studio is about four days from usablility (is that even a word??) and I feel like I can do this.. so here's my list of covers I'd love to hear:
Dazed and Confused ... Led Zeppelin
someone could take a lot of liberties with this.
911 is a Joke ...Public Enemy
I don't know...this just popped into my head.
Master of Puppets ...Metallica
I can't resist this one. I love this song dearly.
Jungle Man...the chili peppers
What a bizarre song. I have no idea what he's singing..but I love this song.
Did I abominize? hopefully not.
EDIT:
Ok. master of puppets is too hard. Jungle man...the lyrics are online, so that should be fine.
So, I change "MASTER" to :
Killing an Arab...The Cure.
That'd be fun.

By the way, stueym, I just wanted to point out that I think Steve Earle is rad.

Dazed and Confused, now there would be a cool one to do. Just need to find a violin bow to play the guitar with...

OK, no theme, just four of my favourites ...
Buzzcocks - You Say You Don't Love Me (1979)
This song is still, maybe ten years after I first heard it, probably my favourite song of all time. Not the best song, maybe, but the lyric is perfect and the music is intricate yet simple, and it's one of the few songs that ever spoke to me on a real emotional level.
The Slits - Shoplifting (Peel Sessions version, 1977)
I have three versions of this song - this is the 'Peel Sessions' version; the words are a little hard to decipher (compared to the version on 'Cut') but this has the mighty Palmolive thumping the tubs and that's good enough for me to accelerate it into any list of 'favourite songs'.
The Television Personalities - Geoffrey Ingram (1980)
A great songwriter, a charmingly amateur musician. A cute song that is sad at the same time. I write my lyrics with Dan Treacy as my role model.
Wire - Outdoor Miner (Single version, 1978)
I listened to this again when I was uploading it and realised how much of this 'Chairs Missing' era tune I try to emulate in my own music. The multi-layered harmonies, the ragged rhythm, the swirls of piano, the strange yet charming lyric... this is one of the few songs that I know of that was actually extended for single release, and I prefer this to the shorter, less piano-led album version.
If you get me, and at least one of these songs doesn't touch you, I despair for you. Really

Al Stewart: Year of the Cat
The Bangles: Walk like an Egyptian
Men Without Hats: The Safety Dance
Kraftwerk: Showroom Dummies
I can get any of this off of vinyl if you really need it.

I really wanted to do this last year, but was too busy... I'm still too busy, but it's too much fun to pass up. I'm in.
Ya, I know my Themesong fight isn't finish yet, but I'm close and have directly apologized Dre, who assures me it's ok (he's still working on his too...). I will not be late with this one!!
Songs to follow... is it bad to choose bands already represented in people's choices already?

Well, golly gee, the winter holidays sure are a great occasion for spending happy time with your family and friends, even if either or both groups aren't entirely well-adjusted. But this is not a super-duper time of year for everyone! For every internet rock star who is a valued and productive member of society, there are countless legions of lonely, single thirty-something guys who live in their parents basements; their only contribution to their world is to slightly increase annual sales of Zoloft and beer for whatever large companies provide those consumer goods.
While many of y'all are out yukking it up with your loved ones, playing reindeer games like "guess which year I'll finally get my cover," I hope you will spare a brief feeling of pity for these sad folks, who will be spending their Christmas vacations with no company but their thirty-seven cats and their internet connections.
But don't be sad! You can help bring just a little smidgen of joy to these people, and it won't even cost you about the cost of a cup of coffee. Nay, all you have to do is record a cover of one of these four fine chansons:
"The Internet Is For Porn" (from AVENUE Q)
"My Supermodel Girlfriend Gone AWOL" (by CENTR-O-MATIC)
"Two Girls Kissing" (by SWIRLIES)
"Voyeur Dorm Love" (by HOBLIT)
I sure hope that y'all will do what you can to make these lonely, lonely winter months more bearable for the less fortunate among us.

The Miller household is a fun place to be at Christmas time. It's full of crazy traditions and waking up at stupid hours.
