Ok, I think I've found a suitable Motel 6, so I guess you can put Feldspar down as a probable attendee and performer. And I'm gladly able to lend my talent to anyone else who needs a guitarist.

I'm sure I'll need help with some stuff, but as I'm not yet sure if Mr. Finger will be attending/helping me be Brainpipe, and further what else I might play, I can't say what yet.

Do you guys have a means of recording the show? I think it would be a good thing to have. Audio at least.
This may be an off-the-wall question, but is it generally possible to put effects on the vocals at these shows?

I don't know about effects but according to a conversation with Bjam yesterday, it will be recorded in audio, at least.

And Bjam- I'm at 99% for coming so don't worry it's more than likely that I'm there. I'm just accounting for random acts of stupid.

We're gonna have my laptop there, and my laptop has Cubase. I'm not sure on specifics of how we're gonna do it, cables and mixers and whatnot, but we will have a live recording. It'll probably be one continuous mp3 of each 'band', and then I can come home, splice up the individual songs, and put them online.

Although somewhere to host them might be nice. :D I have webspace, but I don't know if I want to put a couple of hours of mp3s up there. If all else fails I'll just upload it to a new gmail account and people can get the login info from me and just pick it up. That should work. Eh, figure that out nearer the time.

And then we'll take plenty of photos. If someone has a video camera and wants to record it, go ahead, but we won't be. (Other than possible 30 second .movs on the digital camera if anything awesome happens that needs moving-photo-evidence.)

As for effects on vocals. Uh. I don't think so, but... *shrug* If you can make something work, rock on. :P

What kind of effects did you have in mind? The PA will be one of these but I also have my Yamaha 01X Yamaha 01Xwhich I could use as a sub mixer and it has DSP processing on it. More specificity please how do you want to mask your vocals?:-)
With regard to recording, yes we will be taking a stereo feed from the PA direct into cubase and as Bjam said will then edit it down. Depending on some dry runs I may try to make this a multi session item so that we set up a new tracking for each set. No amazing mixing planned just the output of the main PA straight into Cubase. Will look into some backup mechanism just in case disaster strikes.

So far almost everyone seems to be singer songwriter solo performers with the exception of Father Bingo. The PA has 8 chanels and I have a limited number of mics so any gear loans would be much appreciated..... Any offers? Plus if you want other specific gear, let's get the request out, or prepare to be just you and beg a loan of Mr Sparkles for your set !

Oh, I was thinking of a song like "We Are All Famous" which depends pretty heavily on both delay and other effects, but if it's not going to work that way I can not do that one. On the other hand if I can just wire a mic through my laptop I can probably work up whatever effects I need in Mulch.

Which, by the way, I intend to bring (the laptop). This will be necessary.

Also, I'd like to do some songs with other bandmembers. I just started going through my songs today to figure out what I'd like to do. Is someone playing drums?

Umm, I will also need to bring something or other. Uh, let me get back to you on that.

Oh, also, ground rules - is there booze allowed at this place, or no because it's a churchy thing?

I'd guess that the easiest way to do this is a cheap radio-shack mike through guitar stomp boxes. As an added bonus, you'd be able to switch effects off and on mid-song.

I'd love to play along with ya, whatever parts you need.

it may be better to avoid the issue and sing "clean" but who wants that? ;)

thanks bzl!

Since the PA has 8 channels you can just go vox->your own fx-> to one channel of the PA
laptop to another.

My laptop has two ins & two outs, it's this big honkin' pigtail of cables, so I should be able to run them separately... I'll have to try this out.

my previous offer still stands for playing bass. this goes for anybody who's performing. feel free to contact me if you so desire. i hope this doesn't come across as whiny or pleady, i'm just making sure people know i am available. not desperate, just available.

I'm in for backing vocals if anyone needs it. Perhaps I can shake an egg shaker or something as well.

any requests, folks? (is that egotistical to ask?)

I'd say shoot for 20 minutes, but you might get longer. If most people are g&g then it won't require much set up time, if any at all.
