Okay PM me about your idea for the website and I'll throw you my ideas as well. Together we should end up with something very nice.

It's president's day. Where is everyone? Sleeping in? We still have 14 openings.

...okay dammit I'm in. Perhaps this will help diminish the bad taste left from not being able to produce a decent Abba cover.

I'm in. Hopefully work doesn't drag me away from trying to be the last person standing. Peers nervously at the competition with the tight stomachs, belly rings and pumped up lips.

Jim and Tonetripper, you're in but for inclusion, you must PM me with a link to a pic of yourself and a link to a song of yours that you enjoy.
THAT GOES FOR ALL ENTRANTS.....(Boy, I've been loving the capslock lately)

Hey Niv, Michelle and I agree that it should really be "Nur Eins" with the "S" at the end, because "Ein" indicates that it's "Ein of something" and you'd have to say what the something is... uh, just for German grammatical sake.

Hmmm, tough call.
If you wanted to say There Can Be Only One, it would be Es kann nur eins geben. That supports your view.
But if you wanted to say Only One Fighter Can Be Left Standing, it would be Nur ein Kämpfer kann Stellung gelassen werden (or something along those lines)
So both seem to be perfectly fine. I'll double check with Aurora. She's a linguist and fluent in German. But really, it's a shortening of a longer phrase for a game so I don't think it should be a problem (kind of like how Sudoku is short for a much longer phrase).

wow ... I really didn't think that this idea would be liked so much ... I'm in. I probably won't last for more than a week or so, but it sounds like lots of fun.
Oh, by the way, is there any way for the contestants to collaborate? You know, for some sort of an alliance kind of deal? Maybe they could collaborate twice during the whole contest ...

Good idea, though would it be legal? There could be a team event... Sidefight of a sidefight.

With judges, this is more like American Idol than Survivor, so I'm not sure an alliance would help (at least strategically.)
Also, given the nature of the fight, it'll probably be fair only if each band is composed of the same people week to week. Collaborations could be abused
so easily...

Thanks to Niveous for hosting. I'm in, although I foresee the following scenario: 3 weeks in I get really busy and have little to no time to work on a song so I send in a 20 minute frenzy and get the boot. I hope that doesn't actually happen.... because if not, prepare to be vanquished.

Oh man, I LOVE the idea of secret alliances! People could team up and then regroup for the next week... The possibilities are endless but in a cool way.
The only restriction would have to be that collabs could only happen among official entrants, no "guest appearances", and they would have to be clearly announced, so the organizers could keep track of who is eliminated. Also, no one could collaborate on more than one song per week.
For example, Johnny Hotguitar teams up with Soulful Sue, because they each realize they are weak and strong in complementary areas. So they survive that week with Johnny's killer licks and Sue's soulful songwriting. But then, the next week, they "break up" and each pair up with other people they think would help them stay alive - Johnny collabs with Niles Crane, because Niles needs soul and Johnny needs a singer - Sue camps with IndieGuys, so she can add some edge to her soulfulness. In the next week, Sue+IndieGuys turns out to work out great, and Johnny+Niles die, their collab not having worked out. So BOTH Johnny and Niles are eliminated, because they collabbed on a single song together.
Anyone else love this idea?

Player A PMs Player B and says:
"Lets collab!"
Player B: "Cool!"
Player A: "send me your bit - I'll post the final song!"
Player B: "Cool!"
...day before posting:
Player A: "sorry dude - didn't get it finished - my bad!"
Player B: "D'oh!"
...meanwhile Player A finishes his own song he has been working on all week and posts it
Player B: "You Bastard!!!!"
Player A: "So long sucker"
...so, who wants to collaborate for the first round ?

for this particular sidefight, i think it's a might too complicated. since we've moved toward the Idol-model, let each entrant stand on his or her own merits each round.
however, the idea of teams is pretty cool and for a different, more Survivor-style competition, i agree, alliances could be pretty wild.
man, we're generating like a year's worth of sidefights in this thread.
