After Spokane I'll be heading to Chicago, so that could work.

Although it turns out SWA won't go from SFO to Seattle either. What the hell? Oh well, I still like Alaska Air.

If you have gotten your band name wrong or spelled it incorrectly, now is the time to speak up, as well.

Thanks, SPUD.
Spud: Go ahead and take me off the poster. :( It's just too much for me to get out to Spokane this summer. And I've got the opportunity to take a few gigs at home that week, so I gotta do that. This weekend's NY event will have to be my SF hurrah for this year.

Maybe we could drug him and put him on a plane to Spokane?

So when are folks arriving in Spokane? It looks like I'll get there around noon on Thursday, and leave very early Sunday.

Rehearsals - are we able to rehearse at the venue, since we have access at 11 am Thursday? What other situations are there?

I am reminding my wife daily about this so she doesn't freak out too much the day I leave.

Thanks, SPUD.
As for the poster, "Marcus Kellis" should probably read as "Theophilus Monk" since the whole band will be there.

We have early access to the venue specifically so we can hold rehearsals on Thursday morning, Friday morning and briefly before the show on Saturday morning. Should work very nicely.

How long can I procrastinate this decision? I'm playing a shitload of gigs right now, but it'd be fun to get out of the country scene and play a low-pressure drinkfest. It'd be a nice sendoff before I leave for the Air Force, as well.

Heh. At least the tattoos would be cooler. Here's my LOL enlisting thread, feel free to flame away. My ship date has changed to September 1, though.

Come to Spokane. I'll buy you a beer to celebrate your move from teetotaler to drunk.

I think I'm going to try to get out there Wednesday evening so I don't feel rushed on Thursday.

If you show up, I'll buy you a beer and tell you what the Air Force is really like.

Hm, in that case it'd probably be easiest if I just go direct to Spokane from San Francisco (also on Wednesday), since that's when my vacation starts. That certainly simplifies the travel situation at least.

Is Mrs. Inevitableguy (Inevitablegirl?) going to be coming too, or is she still going to be ultra-busy with the new job? It'd be great to see her again.

No - she won't have vacation time for the next 6 months. Besides, I don't think she was into the idea of sitting around Spokane while I played with my new friends.

Yeah, I kind of figured her vacation time situation would be unfavorable. Oh well.

(She did know I'll be there, though, right? ;)

So how much time will each Songfighter get for their sets? It's getting to the point where I probably ought to start figuring out which songs I'll be playing, and gathering the help as needed.

Indeed, do tell. Anyone other than me in a pants wetting state of excitedness about this? What's the weather like?! Do I need to be prepared for some Atlanta style heat stroke?

Plan for it to be fairly hot, but not nearly as humid and uncomfortable as anywhere in the U.S. east of the Rockies this time of year. I used to think that I enjoyed hot weather until I went to Austin in July for Songfight 2004. I had never experienced anything remotely like it up until that point. Very hot. Very humid.

Definitely getting more excited as the dates approach. Many songs that I still need to sit down and learn, but I'm starting to get in the right mode for sure.

I am speculating that each set should be as close to 20 minutes in length as possible.

We have 19 listed acts, but cancellations or additions could happen. The length of the sets will greatly depend on the number of acts that show up.

Friday show is scheduled from 6:00pm - 11:00pm. (5 hours)
Saturday show is scheduled from 1:00pm - 6:00pm (5 hours)

So, we have 10 hours to work with, but that doesn't include the time it takes to change things up between the acts. We will work to make the switchovers as seamless as possible, but it would be unwise not to have a time buffer of some sort. You can't anticipate the technical difficulties/unforeseen factors that can (and often do) happen.

I'd like to see us get through 12 sets on the first night. That factors in approximately 4 hours of music and 1 hour of set-up/tear down time on the first night. Then we get through the remainder of the artists on the second night, along with the live fight, potentially ending things off with the "Songfight Cover Band" (if people wish to make that portion of the evening a reality. There's not much interest yet.)

Please note: The "Songfight Cover Band" will be the first thing to be cut if we're running short on time.

ROCK!

One way to get more music out of it (I learned from the Idiot Flesh guys) is to have a side stage, or acoustic acts play in between electric bands. So they play while the bands are tearing down or setting up.

For example if at the New York Show we had

Caravan Ray playing guy and Guitar whilst Glennny and friends set up (obviously no sound checks just plugging in and tuning up)
then Glenny & Friends in full electric power
then immediately JB would start his guy & guitar set whilst G & Friends taer down and Dollar Bill set up.
Then Dollar Bill plays as soon as JB is done

...etc

this is easiest with a large stage or 2 stages, but can work well if planned right along with deliberate spot lighting.

just a thought.

BTW I might join the Tiny Robots making us Berkeley Social Scene and still in negotiations with Frisbee about a potential Thank Glennny for the Frisbee set.

I'll be doing at least a couple of songs guy-and-guitar style, so I think glennny's idea is a pretty good one.

Plus, aren't we sharing a lot of the same equipment? How much setup/teardown will be necessary between sets?
