After a good 2 1/2 years of playing with these guys, I'm finally getting my band to enter Songfight. We're in demo phase of an original album, and we've been recording like madmen. Our pooled gear and talent would make Octothorpe and Stateshirt blush.

We will not win the fight, but we will win the review thread. The New Southern Democrats are fucking coming.

How do you "win" the review thread?

Review flooding?

@ Sober. I look forward to it. I've really liked your past entries.

Maybe things have changed, I'm submitting about once/year now. Used to be that there were 2-3 review thread favorites, and then some jackass would win with 50 votes.

@ BLT, this is going to be my first ever non-Sober Irishman submission, meaning it won't be weird and completely unmarketable. I think I'm thoroughly done with that name, anyway. If I did any more solo tracks for Songfight, I'd probably just be "Sober."

At any rate, we are very good at what we do, and this is turning out to be a very good song.

I think you pussed out too early. About a year after I heard a song by you that I really liked, I heard a song that sounded like complete robbery of you. Naturally I can't remember your song nor the robber at this moment. I'll have to search stuff.

At this point it looks like I will be in. I doubt I will win either the review thread or the vote.

But I like the song I wrote.

Doing my best to write what I think is a good song is the most important part of songfight for me. Also important is sharing in others' creativity, learning to listen to songs in enough detail to review them (and therefore learn about songwriting), and seeing how my idea is different from what you all come up with. Of course is also getting feedback on my song, which is difficult to get in the "real world".

Winning a songfight is the last thing on my mind. Never expect it to happen.

As for the next fight, I've recorded the guitars and vocals and only need to put down harmonica. It was a bit too late to do last night since the kids were sleeping. I think I've figured out some of my problem with the mixing and levels, and so we'll see if this one comes out a bit more balanced. It all relates to rushing my recording; I believe you'll find that my giving myself more time is worthwhile. Netto, unless I'm taking a kid to the emergency room, or some other issue pops up, I'll be in.

I humbly beg the comprehension and indulgence of the great and powerful fightmasters to upload the new mix I just sent - maybe twice, since Yahoo! mail was acting strange.

Thanks!

I've had my tune written for about a week now, but I don't really care enough to record it. I guess I'm probably out.

I have a song ready, a steady chord progression, but no will to rebuild what I lost when my mac suddenly closed Garage Band on me. All that meticulous piano arrangement out the window. I say it's a sign from God. So 99% chance I'm out unless I manage to pull a quick one out of my ass before tomorrow morning pacific time. I might surprise myself... I have to say though I'm fairly predictable. Get A Life took me 30 minutes to record and apparently people like it. I must do something right. Humor me enough and list reasons why I should record this song and I will.

No... I'm not serious.

We're recording my final vocals tonight. I'm so excited about this song! It's about the first few months of my relationship with Phil, 13 long years ago. It's a love story :) I hope you'll like it!

I was gunna be in - but now I'm not

I hope at least somebody else is working on an incoherently screamed misogynistic garage/swamp/rock noise mess about cavemen and dinosaurs.

I'm sorry to hear that, I loved your Green Eleven!

On the other hand, mine is off, I am officially in! My fourth songfight!

Well, I initially wrote an incoherently screamed misogynistic garage/swamp/rock noise mess about cavemen and dinosaurs, but I figured that was too obvious, so I scrapped it and got going on something else.

EDIT: (Seriously, though...I am in with a whiny 2 and a half minute pop song. Yay.)

Well it's friday night... time to... song fight??? damn my procrastination... and most of all DAMN REAPER!!!! TO THE MOOON!!!!

my friday night:

step 1) rent High School Musical 3 so girlfriend has something to do while i finish my song... win

step 2) coax reaper into opening with out crashing... when it does lay final guitar tracks like a rioter running from the police's tear gas after grabbing a TV from the nearest smashed window... win/lose

step 3) crash reaper 80 more times trying to mix/master/render the damn track... the last time reaper crashes it reboots my computer... care less about sounding good and more about getting a damn file out... not so win.

step 4) cuss and yell at the computer so loud and violently that girlfriend goes to bed without talking to me... out of fear... win?

step 5) render precious song... now referred to as "worthless sack of shit" and finally compress to mp3 after current compression software also decides to crash.. fantasize about going on a rampage yielding a gun that gives cancer to children. controversial win

step 6) finally send in submission... call it a night... did we also rent "Wanted" on blu ray??? yes we did... win (unless it sucks... then back to cancer gun)

This week on the Humboat show:
A very special episode. If you've ever clicked on a link and seen something you just can't unsee, this is the song for you. Special guest star R. Mosquito on accordion, background vocals, and flutophone!

Lets have a round of applause for Irwin. It was his idea to turn this concept into a song. So he deserves all the blam...err.. credit for it. Send your calls and letters to Irwin!
