The jukebox continues to be awesome. So I won't be silly by asking about
implementing the +1 button on songs.

I currently use
http://www.addthis.com for social widgets like that. I'll check if they've added support for +1. If/when they do I'll include that as one of the default visible widgets along with Like and Tweet.
EDIT: Looks like they're on top of it, unsurprisingly:

I can't seem to log on anymore. Can you reset my password?

Sure. I will reset it tonight and then PM or G+ you the password. I guess I should really get that password reset feature in place... but it's so boring to implement.

Google +1 is there now. Please use it! I'd love to see people using that, and/or the Facebook Like and/or Tweet buttons, and give me some feedback on how I've set them up.

Looks like I somehow wound up with people with "&" in their artist names, whereas the official data had just "&". I've started straightening that out. The links between Dollar Bill & the Inkpoints and Heuristics Inc should work now.

Yeah, they used to be (inconsistently) & before I normalized the data.

Great. eye-roll So much for the assumptions I made about how the archive/profile data wasn't going to change.

I had given up on anybody going in there and "fixing" it and kludged accordingly. Fun times.

So, the thing is, though, you've normalized what's there, but how are you going to ensure that inconsistent &/&'s don't go into the data in the future...?

I see them now, though I figured being able to +1 specific songs would be a way of recommending a specific song for others, rather than a artist, title or fight. Is that possible or do things just get cluttered at that point? I just don't think I'd +1 a fight, what with the various crap in any given fight.
At the bottom of a page is a link to a random song. On that page (with "/songs/" in the URL) there are the social buttons, and it's a song page, but there's no other way to get to a song page that I can see. Well, some work and others don't:
http://sfjukebox.org/songs/naked_on_the ... im+Tyrrell
But ideally, being able to +1 on a specific song while listening to a playlist would be great.

The social widgets are tied to URLs, as I'm sure you know. I've gone the simplest route for now, which is to set them up once per page, and have them automatically connected to that page's URL. So if you want to like/+1/etc. something, for now you have to go to that thing's page/unique URL (be it a song, a fight, an artist, or the site itself, which you can like/+1/etc. from the homepage). You can get to song pages via the random song links at the bottom of every page, as you found. You can also get to song pages via an mp3 file looking icon that shows up next to the artist name when playing songs on a fight page, and next to the fight name when playing songs on an artist page. I realize this is not ideal. Some day there will be context menus everywhere for actions that can be performed on songs, fights, and artists. Some day...

This I did not know

thanks for fixing the &. I realized later that I really should just have used "and" in the name... but if I changed it then, the pages would be separate...

Logged in users should be able to change their passwords now. I will add a password recovery option soon...

Exciting news for the seven of you who have registered! I added a password reset feature. Go to the login page and click the "Forgot your username or password?" link. Then enter your email address (the one you used to register for the site) and you should get an email with your username and a new randomly generated password. You may want to log in with the new password and use the also brand new password change feature (click on your username next to the "Log Out" tab then click the "Change Password" link) to change your password to something you can remember.
I also deleted what looked like a bunch of spam garbage from the users table in my database, so if you registered with a spammy looking username and/or email your account may have been deleted. Sorry!

You might want to add a confirmation link for the new password to take effect, and also actually commit the new password to the database. :)

#1 I will do that at some point.
#2 Oops.

Should be fixed in a few seconds.

The new title and due date are now on the sfjukebox.org homepage.

OK!! Exciting news. Registered users can now check a box to get notified of newly posted Song Fight! titles via email. There will even be a guess at the due date in your local time, for those of you not in the Pacific time zone. (I haven't tested that part though, and time zone code is generally not 100% reliable because time zones are basically a bunch of insane gibberish that should be abolished, so, you'll have to take those estimates of local time as is.)
The steps are:
1) register (just requires an email address)
2) receive your password via email
3) log in
4) check the box next to "Notify me via email when there is a new Song Fight! title."

(Note that you can also subscribe to songfight.org itself via RSS to get that same functionality, although more options are nice to have. There's also a calendar feed at
http://songfight.org/cal.php/songfight.ics)

Oh cool, I didn't know there was an RSS feed with the new titles. What's the URL?
I think I'm going to make it so the site tweets out the new title to my sfarchivist Twitter account next.

Jeez, you've really been hammering on SFJukebox lately. Do you still have a job?
Not that I'm dissing it...
Nice work. We all appreciate it.
