I just don't think I can make it that early in June. DANG!

I love NYC (only been there once) and have always wanted to get back.

That sucks. You were missed last year in San Francisco.

I've always wanted to go to San Fransisco too and it broke my heart not to be able to go.

If this SF LIVE had been scheduled closer to the 26th, I might have made the argument to go but as it stands I just can't right now.

The good news is that I'm finally able to manage my life a little better and I'm hoping to get back into Songfight! in general soon.

So how does this work? Is there a sign up or is it a "just show up" kinda thing?

When we get closer to the show time, whoever is organizing will ask people to verify that they are coming so that we can decide how long sets will be.

Well, they'll ask to verify who's playing. Codaflux, if you just want to spectate, you can drop in with no further prep. But you'll be extended a chance to play a set if you like, as well.

Why would you come if you're not going to play?

I mean, okay, people do that, but why?

Because I can't play my songs live. I'm only one of two people in the "band" and I can't actually "play" any instruments and even if we were both there, I'm pretty certain Reve can't play drums/synths/guitars/etc all at the same time. I do however enjoy meeting all the other crazy Song Fighters and watching them play.

I was curious about this myself. I was hoping to be allowed to play, being all new and everything, I'm glad I'll be able to bust out a few. But I agree with ujn that I'm really excited to meet everyone who's music I've been listening to, and that I am physically unable to play some of my songs live.

There's gotta be some way to pull off a Photovoltaik live show. XTRG had no bloody clue how we were going to do live what we created through loops and madness but we figured it all out. In the end, it took some guitars, a computer, a phone app and some other wacky things (at one point I was playing a giant set of chimes) but we got it done. Other Songfighters would probably be willing to be part of your live band, just figure out what you would need to pull it all off.

Sure, you're allowed to play. We can find a slot for you. And like I just said to ujnhunter, you just have to figure out what you need and there will probably be a Songfighter out there willing to help you make it happen.

That has not stopped people from bringing a CD with a backing track that they just sung on top of. At the very least, Adjuster (The Landfills), MC Poncho, and Future Boy have all done that at past SFLives I've been to and while there was a bit of gentle ribbing for turning it into "karaoke night" they weren't booed off the stage, either. (And hell, that's still more of a live performance than any given Saturday Night Live band.)

And to expand on what Niveous said, remember that people are willing to learn your songs and come up with live arrangements and turn your songs into something new. If people just wanted to hear the song as it was originally submitted they could just listen to the mp3. Live events are different than online fights.

i loved hearing/seeing those tracks modified into live versions.
it is sorta cheesy, but in my live shows i've run some of the tracks direct from the original daw projects while playing and singing others live. do what you gotta do. on the other hand, at the first sf presents show i did (wayne pa) i had people helping me play the songs and we ran very little off of the computer. needed more rehearsal though :)

ps one other thing you can do, there is lots of time between now and sf live. write some songs for new fights in the meantime, with an eye to "how can i make this song work live".

And don't forget the Songfight NYC V1 show at Goodbye Blue Monday. You had a cool set up mixing your computer stuff with live playing.

yeah, there i ran more of it from the computer, depending on the song. i really enjoyed having my wife and her brother, especially, helping me out, since i don't get to play with them! but my wife did not enjoy it, unfortunately.

I'll be there for Saturday at least. It's possible I will have to leave on Sunday for a work-related thing but Saturday for sure.

Sheall, I'll look into tickets for the game.

There in lies the problem... What do I need? Perfect pitch, and to be able to dictate music by ear. No... But seriously, I couldn't play "crashing cars awarding stars" live not only because I wouldnt be able to keep the 10/4 time signature, but because it was four guitar loops smashed together, a few of which I haven't the slightest clue as to how they went... I suppose the laptop to pa could be done, but I like the axe in my hand.
