I have had some hearing problems in my left ear ever since my neurosurgery back in February though - the 1khz - 4khz stuff just isn't there in that ear and sometimes everything sounds garbled in that ear. When doing mixes, I've just learned not to worry if the lead vocal sounds like it's panned right somewhere - if I flip the headphones and it still sounds offsides right, I figure there's just not much I can do about that. For what it's worth, I haven't had any complaints about my mixes sounding lopsided in the review threads since then...
Yeah, I suspect I just have some blockage. I've used a tone generator to map out the hearing in both ears somewhat (although it's hard to do thanks to how the brain has its own dynamic range compression in it), but what I do know is that my left ear is tapering off a bit more quickly above 8KHz, and loses all responsiveness at about 14800Hz (whereas my right ear is good to at LEAST 15500Hz, possibly higher since I'm not sure if it's being attenuated in my ear or in my headphones). I have of course used both sides of my headphones on both ears to verify that it's my ears and not the headphones.
Anyway, as a result, pretty much all treble is skewing right, and I'm just listening to things in mono and looking at my meters to see if the stereo is acceptable. Which I know is going to suck (but I usually keep my stereo stuff fairly low-key anyway so maybe it's not a problem).
