Re: Archive data fun
Pipes are still available? I thought Yahoo discontinued that.
And of course it's not a drug reference, it's a blowjob reference.

Re: Archive data fun
Yes, Yahoo Pipes still exists for now. Also, I simplified my pipe so you only need to provide the full artist name. If anybody has any ideas for Song Fight! related content to try to turn into RSS feeds, let me know and I'll use them as excuses for further experiments.
Meanwhile, back to graphs and charts. I was thinking of maybe adding pie charts for fights showing the shares of votes...

What happened in June, 2008? The average votes per song experienced a sudden sea change!Lunkhead wrote:I whipped up a chart showing number of votes across the horizontal axis, and number of songs that received that number of votes on the vertical axis. I did not include songs from fights where votes were not recorded. Surprisingly, the most common numbers of votes received were 1, 2, 3, and then 0. I expected 0 to be higher ranked than that.

Answered, then asked. Remind myself to read, then post.Lunkhead wrote:There actually was a quite noticeable uptick in the average number of votes per song at one point in time (July 2nd, 2008), which is when the "All We Could See At The Window" fight ended. With a little poking around on the boards I was able to determine that was in fact when Spud released the new multi-voting functionality. Very interesting.

King Arthur intends to reach 100 and retire, and then reappear under some other name.

How is the "King Arthur Award*" going?king_arthur wrote:If this means we will be getting lots more Hostess Mostess songs in the near future, this is a Very Good Thing!
Who holds that ?
Is it still you - or have you won something, which means I overtake you?
Or has Weakest Suit or someone over taken us both?
*"King Arthur Award*" - most Songfight! entries without a win (not counting the "Prayer for Pancakes" fight)

Re: Archive data fun
I lost the title when I won the "Hello My Old Heart" fight. Stupid friend flooding (my high school class was arranging our 40-year reunion and I mentioned on the class reunion page that I had written a song about high school reunions, and it got me just enough votes to beat out whoever should have won).
Fortunately, it was a decent song and did pretty well in the reviews, as well, so there wasn't a lot of complaining... even though it was also a Live Fight title.

Yeah, but I don't think it was ever officially determined that it didn't count. I decided I'd better stop grumbling about this long ago. Grumble, grumble, grumble...

Re: Archive data fun
It was a 14-way tie with 2 votes each and I bet I know who cast all those votes. Perhaps our moderators could open that fight to a real vote someday. Maybe in the style of the "Zero to Phantom" now vs. then re-fight. This anomaly must be corrected.Caravan Ray wrote: (*You will recall "Prayer for Pancakes" does not count because that was the one-hour skirmish done for Spud and JBs TV appearance, after which it was deemed all entrants were the "winners")

Re: Archive data fun
Ha. I didn't want to bring too much attention to that for fear of calling our competitors to arms.
It's interesting to see how things have changed though. I doubt anybody will ever catch up with the top 3, barring them taking long sabbaticals from Song Fight! (not unprecedented, as Paco, while currently #1, did take an entire year off). Also, it's getting harder and harder for BSS to climb the charts. 10 songs to get up to 9th place, oof. Then from j$ to # KA is another huge leap. Time to start entering 2x per fight.
