Do you have to get a contract signed by the owners of Song Fight to make this app public? Curious how this stuff works. Do we have to pay for it. If so, how much? Do we all pay the same, or do I have to pay more for making sure nothing sticks to the bottom of the pot?

It costs $99/yr to be able to put apps in the App Store, I think. (Somebody correct me if I'm wrong there please.) So there will be some cost to somebody for this. If it were an "official" Song Fight! app perhaps it could be non-free and the money from sales could go toward the $99/yr cost of having the app in the store. Any extra money made could go toward Song Fight!'s server bills, Song Fight! Lives venues, etc. Or if it's "unofficial" maybe it could be free but MG could set up a way for us to donate to cover the $99/yr. I'd be happy to chip in. If it's not free, there are several ways to go with the pricing. One is to make it $0.99 so that it's something that people other than those of us who are active here on the boards might buy. The other would be to price it at whatever those of us on the boards would be willing to pay to help cover the costs ($4.99? $9.99? $99/# of people who are willing to pay?).
I don't think I mentioned this before, MG, but I added something that you might find useful. I redesigned the jukebox and there is now a combined search that takes a query string and returns:
- the top 1-5 fights with the query string in the title (response contains the fight keys and titles)
- the total number of fights with the query string in the title
- the top 1-5 artists with the query string in the name (response contains just the artist name but I can add artist key if you want)
- the total number of artists with the query string in the name
- the total number of songs with the query string in either the fight's title or the artist's name
Here's an example URL and response:
http://sfjukebox.org/autocomplete.json?q=front
{"numSongs":46,"numArtists":7,"numFights":1,"artists":["Daring Front","The Frontalittle Squad","MC Frontalot","MC Frontalot feat. Brad Sucks","MC Frontalot w/ Badddspellah"],"fights":[{"title":"Front and Center","key":"front_and_center"}]}

A lot of free apps just use iAd or whatever to get in-app ad revenue. Presumably the app writer would be able to turn the ads on and off based on whether it's made its money back or something.

I have a developer account and would be willing to talk to MG about making this official. The $99 is already paid.

Same goes for you, Lunk. Let's talk about what it take to make the Jukebox "official".

Don't know where else to post this (quality control?) but the Jukebox has changed and I can't log in with Chrome because of the keyboard shortcuts. My password starts with "f" which sends the cursor to the search box. Also the arrows don't play next or prior song. Did I break it?

Wow, looks awesome! Nice work! I can't wait to try it out.
I really appreciate you doing the really hard part of coming up with a nice UI, too. I know for me at least I'm more likely to try to make an equivalent Android app if I don't have to do all that hard work and can just make a port of your UI.
Are you doing an "infinite scroll" type thing where you load more fights as people scroll down the fight list?

Yup. Doing an entire archive request was too slow, so I set incremental loading to 30.

That looks awesome. I don't have an iOS device, but now I eagerly await Lunkhead's Android port.

I've been side-tracked with details, but working on it nonetheless.

(I think my percentile rank is off by one?)

That is off by one, yeah. If there are 20 entries and you beat 19 of them, then you're in the 95th percentile.

Here's the splash screen. I'm rounding the corner on 1.0! I should probably start sleeping and eating again.

Sam - I used to be able to +1 songs, and download mp3s from iOS. Did this go away? Was it on a single song page, which I can't remember how to access?

App rejected. Complete nonsense, but I guess I'll have to polish it up more.
12.3: Apps that are simply web clippings, content aggregators, or a collection of links, may be rejected

Then there's 128.3: apps that perpetuate half-assed song writing and parade behind "contest" parameters may be rejected.
