Sure. Mine were:

Magazine - Shot by both Sides
Alex Harvey Band - Next (itself a [translated] cover of a Jacques Brel song)
Fatback Band - (Are you ready to do the) Bus Stop
Aimee Mann - Freeway

Ha! I had thought of listing that one and forgotten. I always enjoy that tune.
It really is a good song. One of the times that the writing interests me before the music, although the music is really good as well. But you know me, rock first, ask questions later. :P

Yay, I am completely unfamiliar with any of the songs in my assignment and I like it. Gonna have to do an abstract glitch thing this year. Or something.

(I kinda feel sorry for whoever got me. Suddenly I regret making 2 of my 4 choices Japanese-language songs from video game soundtracks.)

I would have changed them to Engrish and had no synthy nonsense. Just drums and distorted guitars. You would have opened my gift with the same face that kids have when they open their brightly colored gift and it's socks.

I did not get your songs, fluf. That's my gift to you. :P

......or did I? :?

Actually I would have greatly enjoyed that.

I liked all the songs I heard upon my list. But this is a real gift this year (first year I'm doing this) and I know we are not meant to tell.. so it's KILLING me because I am
Simply IN LOVE with one of the bands that I got. Of course, I am doing the tune I heart-ly so much! I'm flooded with ideas. But I want to blog about it. And spread the news, and deconstruct it. And you have to NOT because then it is so OBVIOUS who you have! It's making me happy and whole and I haven't discovered something like this in a long time and I think it will change me and my writing and make me grow and all that. Make me sound better. Yaddayadda. What a cool thing!
So this is just great. I hope I do this some justice because I'm certainly so happy to have gotten this. It makes me want to go through everyone's picks to find more hidden gems. Maybe something to do when I'm feeling overwhelmed or something. I guess there is a reason we are all here, after all. :)

I'm still profoundly torn between two songs on my giftee's list. Decisions, decisions. At least I have this week's main fight to keep me busy while I figure it out...

for me there was an obvious choice, and ive found enough time this morning (despite being unable to find guitar tab on the webs for free) to learn the basic chord progression and strumming pattern, and think i can actually play the darn thing half-way decently. however, as we know, recording and mixing is where i really shine *cough cough* ... we will see what comes out

Did we ever get a due date for the recordings, or are we just dropping any pretense of a schedule this year? :)

Isn't it usually do around the middle of Jan, Krueger?

You should ask Jan if he wants you to do anything around his middle first.

I don't know if I can stomach this topic. If I was recording guitar right now I'd have to stop mid-riff.

Now I'm fully expecting someone to do 'No Surprises' in a j-pop videogame Engrish style. (And if nobody else does, I WILL.)

Almost totally off topic:

i was randomly watching the movie "the go getters" this morning on netflix when to my surprise the M. Wade song "Carolina" i covered last year to un-stiff someone came on throughout the movie (or someone else doing a cover of it, cause it sounded different to me) and got the juices flowing. i bust out a few tracks for this years entry, but finding the time to squeeze recording sessions in is rather hard this year.

well i managed to finish tracking today. i think its gonna come out pretty flipping good. i tried to keep it as close to the requested as possible while still making it as weird as possible.

p.s. Niv, could you post the email where we submit again... and possibly a date we must submit by, i cant seem to find either... thanks!
