Made it! About an hour ago. Wish I had more time to put a little production into mine. Please imagine my song with some drums and bass and strings and rocket ships and Smarties. Work this past week cut my time a little short. I have to blame it on something.

Ugh. Erin had a perfectly good song idea that I spectacularly failed to implement yesterday, and today she didn't have much time to work on stuff, so, I would take full blame for the less than half assed entry I sent in on our behalf. Also if anybody has examples of popular music songs with rounds in them, I'd love to hear them. It seems like a tough thing to pull off. I'm very curious to hear everybody's songs and how they dealt with it.

Mine is only a round, and I don't think I got it in on time. Nothing like a helpful husband who suggests you load a program to unzip a file from a friend with extra vocals, and doesn't mention that doing so will cause you to restart the computer, lose what you were working on and need to re-record most of it. What should have taken 20 minutes to finish up, tops, took over 2 hours...and I only had an hour and a half left.

Mine was submitted before the deadline with a minor but noticeable error - basically there was a track muted that should not have been muted. I corrected the error as soon as I noticed and e-mailed the corrected version to Nivous, but that was an hour past deadline. It's up to Niveous which version goes up. Judges (and fellow competitors), after the songs are posted, do you want me to tell you whether you got the corrected version, or would you rather go into my song with no preconceptions?

There's also a part where there are layered harmonies, but no staggered repeated lines. Maybe I misunderstood this whole "round" thing, aargh.

I posted a Youtube video of "Sons and Daughters" by the Decemberists, which is one of the only "true" rounds in pop I can think of (same lyrics, same melody, staggered by one line, persisting through a whole quatrain). I also did one myself a number of years ago, for "What We Need More of Is Science." Ross seems to be counting any instance of vocals layered in which one vocalist comes in after the other. This is actually a valid definition, though I have my suspicions about whether it'll pass muster with the judges.

There's also "Fishin' in the Dark" by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yh3ml8gzrd4 (again, you need to wait until near the end of the song), but it's only one line worth.

I originally recorded a 4 part round, but then reduced it to 2 part for some reason I don't really remember. In hindsight - I would put the 4 part back, because I used the 2 part later in the song - but I didn't have time to do this.

I think my entry for "Ottoman" had a round in it. I have probably done others - but I cannot recall off the top of my head.

Not to get too much more pedantic about this than I already have, but in "Fishin' in the Dark" at the end I don't think that's a round, I think the backup vocals respond by repeating the first lyrics, then they rest, and then they sing the final bit of the lyrics in synch with the main vocals.

My "Chaos Vs Order" has a round in it too, if I recall correctly.


Does TMBG's "Birdhouse in your Soul" have a round at the end? I don't have it to listen to at the moment - I can't remember if it is a round - or just overlapping melodies.

I'm not counting much of anything, I haven't actually listened to any of those tracks since this challenge went up. Just throwing stuff out there.

I didn't get an email saying my submission had been received, should I have?

I expect a guide voice that says "here comes the round, starting with bla bla bla, through the next 32 measures...", and narrating the exposition of each new voice as it occurs. Then I expect a large sum of money deposited in my offshore account.

Had a quick listen through. There a lot of really good entries this week. I'll try to get some reviews done later but my favourites are Add, bgm, Chris Cogott, DJ Ranger Den, FBF, Gooey Caramel Centaur, Jon Eric, Ligers With Attitude (mad props for the acapella hate), Oystercatcher and Ross Durand. Oh and Manhattan Glutton, dreamy drop . I wouldn't be surprised to see bgm take it again though, fantastic song.

No one seemed to care either way, so I'll just tell you guys. Niveous posted the corrected version (the second I sent him).
