metal is always heavy on the downbeat, you lay on the upbeat it's ska
always heavy on the one.
It's dangerous to say anything is always anything. But usually you're right. Moving the emphasis can also be characteristic of post-metal (as compared to metal). Case in point: the upbeats are prominently featured for the first 1:35 of this song (post-metal), until suddenly a heavy downbeat-based riff enters (metal)... http://thematador1.bandcamp.com/track/kingdom-of-glass

I used to annoy my friends by writing harsh, heavily distorted songs about flowers.
I can't believe we've been having a metal discussion for this long without mentioning the heaviest deepest hardcore band of all time. They're so heavy they don't even use instruments...
I certainly hope next weeks challenge will be "Hip Hop Astronauts"

Their semi-final performance didn't do the song justice, sadly. But yes, dubstep ASTRONAUTS. How cool was that?
Greece did better than expected, the favourite (Denmark) won. Not my favourite song, but at least they only have to move twenty minutes down the road in the next year. Unless they have it in Aarhaus. And why would they have it in Aarhaus?
Bonnie was croaky. Can we not have a pensioner singing for the UK next year, please?
The awful Armenian metal entry benefited from political voting. Note this, competitors.

D'oh
Your post should have had a "spoiler warning" - the final isn't broadcast here until tonight.
But Denmark was pretty good in the semis. A pretty girl with lots of drums - works for me.

No - you actually saved me from wasting a significant chunk of my life sitting through the voting process.
But how on earth didn't Greece win? They were awesome. Finland was cool too.

Hey you guys. American here. Stop trying to make it seem like there are important things outside of North America. Or we're coming for you. With our guns. And our disposable income.
Oh, who am I kidding. We couldn't even find you on a globe. Carry on!

Excellent discourse on what is/isn't metal! Lemme just say, you gotta put your foot down and draw the line, else you got these poseurs watering down the genre with their pussy-ass weaksauce.
DEATH TO FALSE METAL!!!!!
WWIMD? Rock yo' face off, with searing dual guitar harmonies, galloping bass, skull-smashing drums, and historically accurate lyrics delivered by an operatic airplane pilot who still looks great in spandex!!!!
And sorry dudes, KISS sucks
(How is Between the Buried and Me more hardcore than metal??? WreckdoMelle takes exception to this slight by Encyclopedia Metallum...)

I'm in.
In case anyone cares - my song includes elements of the musical style "metal," portions are performed on metal instruments (including a shredding trumpet solo by my brother Steve), and is on the topic of mining for metal.
HAve I ever mentioned how much I hate mixing?
