So - this is locked in - isn't it.

I gotta get my arse into gear and get plane tickets.

And a frikkin passport.

I applied for a renewal to my passport last January. And just realised yesterday - it never came.
Either they lost my application, or ASIO didn't like my " Caravan Ray Sings the Songs of Al Qaeda" album.

Thanks guys for pointing me here and sorry it wasn't sooner! Too bad if you're picking 15-16 august, that's difficult and 29-30 would be better. I'll have to be a maybe - will look for a definitive post of places/times since I am supposed to head to New Hampshire for a conference on sunday 17 aug. More soon!

Hi Elaine! We'll keep our fingers crossed-- would be great to see you! If it helps, you can definitely have a spot on the 15th so you can get home on the 16th to hit your conference flight on the 17th. :)

Song Fight! Live 2014
When: August 15 and 16 from 7 to 11 PM
Where: 7DL Studios
2008 8th Street NW, Washington, DC 20001

I'm actually going to move up the times to 6 to 10, so that we can have 3 hours of rock and 1 hour of acousticky each night.

Does that mean the set lengths are getting longer, or there are just that many people doing electric sets? What is the lineup looking like?

Lineup (not exact order, but mostly who will be there barring last minute adds and retractions) is in the other thread.
Set lengths will be about 30 minutes each.
Live fight will be at the end of Saturday, and acoustic only. (Keys are fine, but no drums, for example.) Leveraging the noise restriction to focus on the songs. :)

Think of it as an additional optional challenge, only this one isn't optional.

You would think that I would know the answers at this point, but anyway - a friend of mine is thinking of coming down to catch the show(s). Are there tickets, or a cover charge, or can he just show up and hang out?

Awesome! A definite maybe. You know I can't usually perform my stuff since I "don't really play." But maybe I can squirt something out to suit. /* goes to look for the current title */

And drink beer.

Oh yeah, what's the venue's food/drink policy?

We are allowed to bring food and drink into the venue. I promised that we are a bunch of adults who will be respectful.

Including alcohol? Some jurisdictions have problems with that without an appropriate permit.

Well shit.

Oh, I am very pleased to hear that. Very pleased indeed.
I thought I was going to have to spend all night in the gay bar across the road watching things via face time or something

Obviously I don't know how things work over there - but I gather this event is in what is essentially a private business and not really open to the general public, and not a public space - so wouldn't it be no different to taking a few beers to a friends house?

That would be common sense, but this country has never had a lot of sense when it comes to alcohol. Spud has a great story about when he learned this the hard way.

I specifically asked, and was told that it's allowed. If it weren't allowed, we'd be at a different venue.

If it weren't allowed, I know I'd be at a different venue. Probably across the road in the plush lounge watching the drag show.
