silver jews - tanglewood numbers - this cd is fookin' awesome. i especially can't stop listening to "sleeping is the only love."
eef barzelay - bitter honey - this is a solo, acoustic album from the frontman of clem snide. this cd is lovely.

I saw Silver Jews the other night. It was amazing. He and his wife were adorable and they played all the best songs (except "I Remember You" and "Rebel Jew"). Anyway, one of my very favorite bands. Dave Berman is my Bob Dylan.

i'm jealous, luke. hopefully, they'll tour more in the future. and they'd better come closer to me. but then, bands tend to reach indiana and then drive through it. it's how we earned our nickname, "the crossroads of america."

you're very welcome. unfortunately, it doesn't seem that a lot of people are jumping on (or back on, as it were) the david gilmour bandwagon with me. oh well, at least you and i enjoy it!

The Dirty Projectors' The Getty Address is genius. A sprawling masterpiece of the esoteric. Plus it's about a guy named Don Henley (not THE Don, just A Don). Anyway, it's insane.

first time i heard this in Reveal records, the track ended and i opened my eyes and thought "what the hell am i doing in Derby highstreet?" it's like a totally different world. the last song 'Long singing' is brilliant too. and when, over time, it stops having the same effect check out Symbol by Susumu Yokota.

I saw Three Penny Opera last night, and basically I'm obsessed with Brecht and Kurt Weill right now. I got it in German, as it was meant to be sung, and it's just absolutely dripping with dark melancholy beauty. It sounds like it's broken, but has become more beautiful for it.

I finally took a listen to Stephen Malkmus's Face the Truth, and I'm sorry I put it off for so long. Strained and tired (I mean both of those descriptors in a good way) and rocking and just a whole lot of despairingly beautiful tracks.

Also, Elliott Smith's Figure 8, but that may not bear mentioning.

Have you heard the band's other stuff? Wish You Were Here, Animals, and Dark Side Of The Moon are three exceptional albums.

Also: I got David Gilmour's new solo album. I was afraid it would be... well, for lack of a better term, musically predictable. Not so. It's very enjoyable.

Hahaha, I have acquired Gorgoroth and Erik Satie both in the last year. I don't know the others, excepting Three 6 Mafia (but them I only know by reputation). Children of Bodom and Gorgoroth are both good. Erik Satie too. I think I might play Trois GymnopÃ©dies on my show tomorrow night.

Do you know much about Gorgoroth? I didn't until pretty recently, but they are hard. I thought this kind of thing was relegated to the early 90's scene, but they're still going strong. Here's some info about what the band's been up to recently:

"On January 4th, 2006, Infernus was taken to court on charges of kidnapping, participation in gang rape and illegal weapon possession. With exception of admitting some minor violations of Norwegian fire arm regulations he has declared himself not guilty. In May 2005, Infernus and a friend were sentenced to three years in prison for rape. Both of them appealed the verdict. In 2004 Gaahl went to court on charges of 'performing satanic rituals and torture lasting for several hours' on a 41 year old man after beating him senselessly for hours and drinking his blood. He was sentened to four months in jail and pay $30,000 to the victim."

Three 6 Mafia are amazingly narcoticized, eerie and heavy. The song "Rainbow Colors" is about getting high on Robitussin and it sounds like the apocalypse in slow motion. If that doesn't sound great, what does?

I recently saw a show with National Eye and The Teeth. I was really pleased, especially with the latter band. I'm again pleased to find out that they are doing shows alongside The Spinto Band (all those Philadelphia kids are ganging up). The rumor mill says Spinto might sign on with the same lable as these two bands for their next CD, but these are just rumors. I'm still excited. National Eye/The Teeth/Spinto Band would be an amazing show.
