Neversoft needs to take a five year break from making Tony Hawk games. They are too easy, exactly the same, and boring. And the more crazy shit they add for novelty, the more it sucks. Underground was lame, 2 was worse, and I won't even play American Wasteland.

On a positive note... Seriously, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. Wow.

4 week countdown to the circle of hell that will be known as the X-box360. Already in the virtual line at Walmart.

I agree that the series is becoming sickening.

But:

They always add at least one or two dynamics that actually pertain to skateboarding. In this game, it is the addition of bert slides, and the expansion of walking abilities. For example, while on foot, you can drop or throw your board and hop back on it later. Stand on a rooftop, throw your board down, and try to jump on it from the roof. That's at least kinda fun.

Also, you can now acid drop and transfer banks, rather than only quarterpipes. This is cool if you like to skate realistically, which I do. I don't try to get 2 million point combos, I try to do the smoothest, realest looking switch heelflip frontside noseslide possible down the vans hubba.

You can also land tricks with a pivot, much like landing with a revert off a quarterpipe. Also cool for realistic tricks.

The addition of BMX riding is an ok idea, but very poorly executed. If they had made it feel like dave mirra, I'd be a fan, but they made it feel like giving oral sex to a blood relative.

I always get sold on the classic levels they bring back. They brought the chicago level from thps1 (they call it 'minneapolis' in this game for some weird reason). That level kicked ass. Now you say I can do manuals and shit on it? SOLD.

The storyline, stylistic content, characters, and general rape of 'punk culture' is truly demeaning and offensive. In the first 2 minutes of gameplay, the gamer is subjected to the idea that if you don't dress like a punk, punks will beat you up and rob you. Fucking great. Things like that are ever-present in this game, and it makes me feel wretched.

That doesn't make it a not-fun game, though.

What I'd really like to see is a Thrasher: Skate and Destroy 2

The series went downhill after THPS3, and when they switched from time limit to open areas, I lost interest. What's next, MMO-THPS?

(Please, no.)

And walking just sucks. Fucking stupid idea.

I just got the Command & Conquer Box set thing.

I have pinpointed the thing that makes me hate RTS single-player campaigns: Skirmish missions.

They give you like ten infantry units, none of which have any building or capturing capabilities, and they expect you to knock out like 50 enemy units AND their base. Warcraft, Starcraft, C&C, Age of This'n'That, they're all guilty.

I'm playing through the original game, and I came upon a skirmish mission that's just ludicrous. When I'd see these missions in Starcraft et al, I'd just find the mission skip code and move on, but the original C&C has no cheats. So, because of the insane urge for these game creators to put these stupid little exercises into an otherwise great game, I have to pass.

Fucking skirmish missions.

And don't start with 'oh that proves u dont have teh uber micro.' I like RTS because you get a base, and you create units that kick everyone's asses. Give me units and no base, suddenly you have an adventure game. I hate adventure games. They're not throwing those missions in to test a different skillset, they're changing the fundamentals of the whole game. I disapprove.

Fucking skirmish missions.

I never thought C&C were good RTS games. Warcraft/Starcraft were immensely better. Rise of Nations is probably better than all those.

I finally got a handheld system made this century, namely a GBA SP. Yay me.

(I'd have gotten a Micro or a DS but I still have some GB cartridges I play and I was just getting sick of how crappy the Gameboy Color's screen is.)

Then you'd really hate MYTH 2. Nothing but skirmish.

But you wouldn't be alone. Lots of people hated it. Because it was nothing but skirmish.

Oh and losing units in one level meant you'd be short that number in the next level.

Oh man, that sounds like the worst game ever.

Dragon Quest VIII is still consuming much of my free time. Gorgeous game.

All I remember about Myth/Myth II is how much sparks loved it. I've always been too lazy to find and play it, but it seemed like fun.

I got a hold of Soul Calibur 3 the other week. Seriously, I'm not really a fighting game person, but this game is awesome. There is just so much stuff to unlock and find.

Plus building your own character is pretty good. I just unlocked a pair of thick rimmed black glasses, that look strangely nerdcore. I am considering building me a fighting army of SongFighters.

The final password you get in Beatmania GBMix when all songs are unlocked is "UUDDLRLRBA." It's the only password which is that long, and the password field is exactly the right length to accomodate it. All the other passwords are shorter and are things like "REMIX" and "KOBEBEEF.")

Also, before Konami started putting the various modifiers as selectable options in DDR, they were hidden behind certain step patterns. One of them was stomping out the Konami code (I think that gave you double mode, where you dance on both platforms).

Also, for a while, Love Triangle Dating Challenge had a hidden feature where if you put in the Konami code, it'd unlock the first boss fight from Gradius. The programmer who wrote that wussed out and pulled it, though.

Nothing beats Gradius 3. Put in the Contra Code and you die.

Also, The Elder Scrolls is where it's at. I don't have much interest in recent games, but Oblivion looks way way sweet. As all previous games in the series have been.

Mr. Gyte, you must absolutely find, purchase, and play Gothic 2. Beats Morrowind hands-down in my book. And I like Morrowind.

Everytime I bring up TES on a forum, someone says this. I do indeed intend to pick up Gothic II Gold (and by the way, have you seen Gothic 3? That's some sweet shit). The thing is, it seems much more linear than any TES game, and I don't really dig that. I've logged countless hours on Daggerfall and Morrowind and have never touched the main quests.

Well, more linear doesn't really mean linear. There are defined chapters, and monsters don't respawn within the same chapter. The map isn't quite as large, either (still huge, though, and it only has one load point). But the result of this is a much more cohesive experience. There are no generic people, really. Everyone is unique, has individual day/night schedules, opinion of you, etc. The game world just feels more alive.
