Great update to the song list. I had planned on checking back today to figure out what's still open. Go ahead and put me (The BeWells) down for Midnight Flyer. I've been looking for an excuse to do some bluegrass and this should work nicely.

neurotic unfun question - It looks like the other cover fights are of Open music. The Eagles are a pretty litigious group of guys - is this subject to copyright drama?

Not if you don't try to sell it.

Psh, fuck if I care. I'll be like, "Don, we're related."

I'll be like, "Don, we're--" but before I even finish my sentence, Egg's cracked him on the back of the head with a case full of Eagles records, and he's down for the count.

Then we record our Eagles cover using his lifeless body as our percussion section.

That seems a little over the top even for a litigious group or individual.

At the same time I would love to hear the recording.

I would like to preface my comments as follows - I, unlike the cool kids, am a fan of the Eagles INC - heretofore refered to as the complaintant:

I heard Fry say once that Henley has diverticulosis - a condition where waste products become traped in the intestines. so he would likely be a fairly dull and mushy drum. Fry on the otherhand worked out alot in the Miami Vice days and I believe has artieriolsclerosis/ hardening of the arteries so he might make a good sharp thump. But I am in no way condoning such behavior and my post is meant in jest your honor.

If a cover band does an Eagles tune at a show then the propriotor of the brick and mortor has to pay a fee to BMI or TLA or RAII or sumsuch. So by way as analoy and lots of LA LAW and Ally McBeal I would say that whom ever hosts the MP3s could be responsible for paying royalties for each download to said publishing pimps.

We can thwart this Evil by hosting the MP3s at each of our own ISPs - so it'll be a class action suit - the Eagles INC vs an Arty Indy music web community - it wouild get tons of press - the fight masters would get on 60 minuntes and Oprah and they could talk up Phunt and Wreckdom as the next great muscial movement and all the veal calf media suckling dolts would beleive it and make P and W rich and famous and that would bring about the end of the world - thus averting the law suit.

oh and BTW the sky is falling

I don't know about the rest of you but I am absolutely fascinated by this pseudo lawyer stuff.

That's only because the show is being sold for profit, so anything played at the show is also, in a sense, being sold.

These cover songs won't be sold.

I just checked this out to see if anyone was covering Bitter Creek or Outlaw Man, and then noticed, hey, I'm in this fight?!
heh

Ok, the harmonies at the end of Bitter Creek are killer. I'll do it, just gotta get an mp3 of the tune cause I have this album on record from an old yard sale, and no more record player...

When is/was the deadline for this fight? Maybe repost dates at the beginning of the thread? Are we all gonna get sued by the all-ready-filthy-stinkin-rich Eagles for covering their tunes and posting em somewhere?

stueym wrote:Just to clarify, Luke has indicated Nov 30th would be a good final final deadline. That give people lots of time to experiment/rework/change their mind and procrastinate to the Thanksgiving holiday then suddenly record in 24 hours :-)
This sounds good. I can get mine done by the end of November.
As for copyright issues, I don't know about you, but I don't get the feeling I'm going to hamper the Eagles' economic success by my efforts.

Yes, I think the issue is a bit moot, to be honest. Unless Stueym is planning to burn and flog CD-Rs out of the back of his family wagon ...
