7 Niveous
7:20 Bjam
7:40 stueym
8 Heuristics
8:20 WeaselSlayer
8:40 Frankie Big Face
9 Adjuster
9:20 nyjm
9:40 RxW
10 Feldspar
(These are totally random time slots, it's just easier than saying "Band One" "Band Two" You can fight it out for time slots nearer the time)
That would take us to 10:20, with extra time to allow for explaining about SF/allowing for stragglers/set up time/starting late/unexpected bands/whatever else.
So, yep, I think aim for 20 minutes, but if you want less/more time, you may be able to work something out nearer the time.

The only thing I might say, as someone who considered being there and can't be, is the host should go first. It's such a horrible slot, and I bit the big one for SF:UK Live and went first, and despite the soul-crunching nerves, about half way through I realised people weren't gonna hound me out of the venue, and it was quite a pleasing experience. And it freed me up to play camp-compere-par-excellence.
So yeah, my point being, host should go first. Not fair to dump that on anyone else.
But just my opinion, of course.

In my opinion....
No. No. No. I don't wanna go first. Please don't make me go first.
Seriously,
As this is my first concert in a dog's age, I would prefer a different slot so I can get a feel for everything.
Who's Emceeing this affair? (That on the other hand, I wouldn't mind)

I can go first if no one else wants to. I'm pretty easy as to when I go really. Stueym and I will sit down this weekend and work out times for each person playing. So if you have a preference, speak now or forever hold your peace. As for MCing. Eh. Whoever wants to do it can do it. Again, I can do it if no one else wants to.
I'm pretty relaxed about most things really

20 minutes is good; that's like, what, 4-6 songs? plenty. let me jump in with Niveous with a big ol' "not it!" for going first. (egads, how long has it been since i played live in front of people... man, i was an undergrad.)
two suggestions for the order, one personal, the other general:
1) it would be nice if Niveous, Heuristics Inc and myself (you can just call me noah, btw), were near each other, since i've asked them to come play.
2) perhaps the folks with the more involved setups should go earlier in the evening, to allow for the eventual snafus. that way, as the evening progresses, things get simpler and not more complicated.
2a) or we could alternate simple and invloved setups, just to shake things up. :-)

The 8:00 slot was pretty good for me but we might want to put Noah near mine so I can help him on at least one song.

EDIT: haha, now that was funny timing.

i'll second this, since these are the three people who've contacted me about playing with them. it'd make things easier for me if i didn't have to get up and sit down a bunch of times.nyjm wrote:it would be nice if Niveous, Heuristics Inc and myself (you can just call me noah, btw), were near each other,

should like, the four us just form a band and do an hour-long set? all we need is a drummer. ;-)tviyh wrote:i'll second this, since these are the three people who've contacted me about playing with them. it'd make things easier for me if i didn't have to get up and sit down a bunch of times.nyjm wrote:it would be nice if Niveous, Heuristics Inc and myself (you can just call me noah, btw), were near each other,

i haven't seen an answer to this one yet, and i was wondering too.HeuristicsInc wrote:is there booze allowed at this place, or no because it's a churchy thing?
furthermore, are plans being made to provide things like a drumset (if anybody is going to be using drums), bass amp, guitar amp, microphones and stands, etc etc? (i'm assuming the basics of a PA system, at least, will be in place). not trying to step on anybody's toes here, but there is no such thing as being over-prepared, so i'm just asking.

I'm not sure. I'll try and find out. I'm guessing if it's a private(ie, just Songfighters and their friends/family) it would be okay. They host wedding receptions there, so I figure alcohol is served. And as long as we don't charge for it. I'll check though. (Though not till next weekend, as this week my Dad is away, and I'm thinking that a high schooler going in and asking about alcohol might be a little odd) (Btw, I guess by now that you've all figured out that stueym is my Dad, but incase you didn't know, stueym's my dad.tviyh wrote:i haven't seen an answer to this one yet, and i was wondering too.HeuristicsInc wrote:is there booze allowed at this place, or no because it's a churchy thing?

Wellll. We're gonna definitely have:tviyh wrote:furthermore, are plans being made to provide things like a drumset (if anybody is going to be using drums), bass amp, guitar amp, microphones and stands, etc etc? PA. I think my Dad posted the link somewhere earlier.
Acoustic and electric guitars (But if you wanna bring your own, go for it.)
SM57 and SM57-kinda-mic.
Three mic stands.
Percussion of the tambourine/triangle persuasion.
Cables and extension cords and stuff like that.
Recordy stuff for recording the sets into Cubase.
Things we need if you want them:
Drums. I could get some, but it could get awkward, so if you want them, find someone that wants to bring some

Bass. We have a cheap bass, but if you want a super nice bass, I'd say bring your own.
More mics. Is two enough? *shrug* Probably not. Bring some more if you want to.
Music stands. I dunno if any of you want them. I just sticky tape my lyrics to the mic stand and make do, but some of you may have more class than that.
And. Yeah. I think that's all. Anything I'm forgetting?

That's my same train of thought. There is a bar right across the street if it ends up that you can't drink alcohol in the venue. So you can always drink, and then wander across Route 30 to come hear musicfrankie big face wrote:I would rather have an audience than beer.Bjam wrote:I'm guessing if it's a private(ie, just Songfighters and their friends/family) it would be okay.

That's quite an idea but logistically how would we pull it off???nyjm wrote:should like, the four us just form a band and do an hour-long set? all we need is a drummer.tviyh wrote:i'll second this, since these are the three people who've contacted me about playing with them. it'd make things easier for me if i didn't have to get up and sit down a bunch of times.nyjm wrote:it would be nice if Niveous, Heuristics Inc and myself (you can just call me noah, btw), were near each other,

I'll be there.
If anybody needs a ride down from the NY/NJ area, I'll probably drive. I could offer seats for two people. Three if my wife decides not to come with me. It's about an hour and a half or two hours drive from my house to Philly. The only requirement would be for you to get yourself to Maplewood, NJ that morning (and away from Maplewood that night). Oh, and no smoking in my car. And if there's alcohol at the event, NO PUKING in my car, either.
It would appear that I am giving kindof late notice that I am attending. I will not be offended in the least if I cannot have a timeslot.

I'm driving, so I'd be glad to throw my drumset that we used in Boston in the car. I'll PM you and we can work out logistics.Bjam wrote: Drums. I could get some, but it could get awkward, so if you want them, find someone that wants to bring some ;)

One more thing...
I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do, and it occurs to me that I haven't subjected any other musicians to the hell that is performing live w/ me recently.
Would a guitarist, a bassist, and a drummer be into doing "Too Goth to Rock" (http://www.songfight.org/music/too_goth ... torock.mp3) with me?
I doubt we'll have any rehearsal time to speak of (though I am getting into the area on the 31st and will be around all day on the 1st), but it's a musically trivial song, and very short. I will, of course, be glad to type out the chords, etc, for anybody who is interested. PM me if you're interested.
