jolly roger - I noticed he does not capitalize it in his username, so I figured that is how he wants to be addressed. No hidden meaning behind the change.

I believe this is an actual song - he wrote it. Can you tell me who he plagiarized from? I don't think it's an especially good song (MC Eric B - PM me for specific feedback) but what makes you say this is not a song????

the dude said a) he is a songwriter, not a musician, and b) he can't play any instruments. so either he is a musician and plays the piano or this is loops and auto-accompany.

Fight! Fight!

To be honest, I haven't even listened to his stuff. But I am intensely self conscious of my poor percussion skills and find it the most difficult part of recording. So I resonated with his issue.

He is a great sport, though. A true N00b would have been playing right into your hand with a bunch of "hey! what I ever do to you!??! I have the right to do anything and call it whatever I want!"

Eric B- "Melody" typically refers to an arrangement of pitches that lies over the metered time. A pianist commonly plays a bass line and rhythm with the left hand and the melody with the right. Mozart bragged that his left hand was machine-like and faithful to the beat while his right hand could decelerate and accelerate the melody expressively. The latter is "melody". Sounds like you're referring to the former; given that you're doing it with samples and drum loops, I'd use "pattern" or "ostinato".

As for the prefight, I'm obviously in. And I'll take my answer off the air.

I was surprised, too. My wife hates it. But I do consider it one of the more successful Hostess Mostess genre experiments. And I remember writing it while painting the kitchen. It was fume-inspired. But definitely it would have been better if I'd (gasp) collaborated with someone who makes good rhythms.

Ross - I love your version of my "Couldn't Have Been Worse" song!!!

Blue - Ross's version of my song proves my point that I am a songwriter, not just a lyricist. He could have taken my lyrics and made a totally different sounding song, but instead he used almost the same exact melody/tune that I created, just with different background music (his guitar) and better sung vocals. His version is more like a "unplugged" version. Since my lyrics are somewhat poetic, this works very well for the song.

Mostess - In regards to a "melody", what I am trying to say is that there is a difference between just writing only lyrics, and writing the tune/melody for the song. I maybe am not saying it correctly, but when I write my lyrics, I also create a melody/tune for them in my head. I really don't care much about the pattern of the drum or how the loop sounds. Even if I were to sing my song acappella, it would still have the same melody/tune. I just add catchy background music because, well, that's part of what makes it a song. Nobody wants to hear me sing acappella .

As for the me being a "musician" or not, since I write and perform my own songs I guess by default that makes me a musician. But, I don't want to put myself in the same category as real musicians (like Ross and most other songfighters) who play their own instruments and play in bands, so I don't want to call myself a musician on a forum filled with people who are all at a totally different level.

So ... where's the fight? I normally wouldn't ask since I know where it is, but I'm just really excited for this one.

Heh, sorry, I meant that I was surprised that my version got that many votes. I meant to say "ours" because that was in Pipefist, which is a collaborative project between a friend of mine and me. He does all the electronic stuff, and I just lend guitar and vocals, and generally write the melodies, lyrics, and structure of each song. Coincidentally, my ex-fiance hated my Les Anchois entry too! Also I just went back to listen to your Les Anchois again, and it was quite enjoyable.

Also Ross that MC eric B cover is pretty awesome. Your 3 cents were well spent.
