Oh well, relapse has gotta be better than prolapse.
Sorry for not doing proper reviews. Who can be arsed eh?
Some thoughts on the big scorers.
Outtanoway: Loop's okay but that's all the track is really, everything else is lame especially that fucking mashup section at the end. Do you think we'll be impressed cos you got a new plugin that you can't even be arsed to program properly? Just turn it on and "oh my god, that sounds AMAZING!". a regular fucking Richard D. James aren't ya?
MCRT: vocal is irritating cos it's nasal, I could get over it after a few listens but won't cos one is all yer getting. Some of the rhymes are pretty good. No download but there are bits that make me smile.
Doorite: God, I know this is gonna be shit from the opening bar. It will not change. What do you know, I was right. Thank fuck mCRT's microbe of talent turned up with more friends than you.
I feel bad for not giving Ross a little feedback, so:
The are parts where the vocal seems a little shaky, I do like the fragile effect but the melody gets lost on occasion. I like the bit where you sing "all bow down" and repeat it. It kinda freaked me out second time when the chorus comes in, maybe they should've been a bit farther back in the mix with some nice big reverb or something, I dunno. This is alright, definitely a refreshing change from all the Suck-my-King type tracks (see above).
Melvin: I feel like a twat when I don't listen to your songs in a fight, I suppose sometimes I think I can guess how it will sound so I go back and listen to 'How do you like the colors?" again or something (for old time's sake). Anyway, I'm dead pleased I did download this, it definitely stands out from your other work and I think the organ helps a lot. I did immediately think "ooh is this gonna be different, no the guitars will kick in soon" and they did, but my expectations were still confounded. The intro guitar melody wasn't that inspiring, but I love the organ and drums in the verses, they really remind me of the sound of Green era R.E.M (my fave of all their stages). The lyrics are brilliant too, I bet your wife was well impressed. I like the fadey outro with the spazzy guitar. A good full-stop to the Robo-Melvin era.
I also like the Finding Nemoy song cos you always remind me of TFTF, what's going on there? if you're not the same person you must be related. Do tell.

Thanks for the review - I agree about this second time. If I had given myself more time I would have recorded like 1000 tracks, that really was the effect I was going for - the crowd bowing down. Glad you sort of heard that even though I didn't get it mixed right.Furrypedro wrote:Ross It kinda freaked me out second time when the chorus comes in, maybe they should've been a bit farther back in the mix with some nice big reverb or something, I dunno.

This was by far the most annoying fight to review. Between buffering and waiting and listening to 10 seconds of music at a time…I think the reviews suffered a bit, but since there havent been very many I thought I should finish what I started.
Pepes confusion-the music is structured really well, I like the lyrics and the vocal style. Love all the instruments and the mix is great. I like the ahhhhh ahhhhs around 1:40. Nice song.
Project D- even though the guitar effects are really heavy I think it fits nicely into the style of the song.
I really get into it at the musical break, awesome how it strips down after that and fills up after the verse again. Great song.
Ross Durand- wow nice deep voice . Im liking the simple piano. Im wondering if this is going to break out eventually. Could have used some bigger sounds in the middle, but its good how it is.
Sativa indica- its cool if I try to imagine a slow motion fight scene with knights and dragons and stuff. Nice and short.
Sheail-I have Saturday night fever now. Ive got my white suit and my chains, all I need is some black dancing shoes and a foxy lady. I know..if you cant say anything nice…sorry, its fine just not my c.o.t.
Sign boy- vocals are too restricted, if you are going to sing you have to commit, strong singer or no, you have to commit. A committed crappy singer is better than a withdrawn awesome singer. Not to say you are either one, but I cant really tell from this song. I like to hear you go for it vocally. The song is lost because the vocals are barely audible in places and shifts focus on trying to hear them instead of the song as a whole. Great music though.
Sorry-apology accepted, I hope you learned your lesson. Im sorry this is a terrible song. Sounds like a lame attempt at a john mayer type love ballad…then you say “ please don’t cry” at the end? That is so out of place that is moves from sappy romantic ballad to date rape. If I didn’t speak a bit of English I would have thought it sounded good though. Look forward to hearing a better song from you someday.
Steakhaus- love the drum and bass. Very industrial sounding music. I imagin a commune of grungy people with dreads and ripped pants banging on rusty steele 50 gallon drums in an abandoned building. Witch..when I think about it that way I can really get into it.
Steve Durand-not one of my favorite steve-o song, but the music is tight like usual.
Those meddling kids- thanks for announcing that it is an instrumental, because there is nothing worse than waiting for those vocals and being let down. Genius, now I can enjoy the music the way it should be enjoyed. This would be great on a movie soundtrack. I can easily imagine the story that could develop with this song behind it. Great job.
Wages-sounds like it would be a good poem, its not grabbing me as a song though. I think because the lyrics don’t flow quite right with the melody, except in the choruses. I like those. Especially at the end when you really get passionate about it. I like the story after listening to the entire song.
Wally harbinger-its not your fault, but this angle has been used to death in this fight, so it losses in originality by way of alphabetical cirumstance. I like the eighties power lead sounds though. Really liked the intro. I was almost hoping for a ragtime piano rock score. I like it well enough.
Wes davis-nice vocal range. The lyrics sound like they should be a rap song . I like the last king me line at the end of each chorus. Shows off your ability vocally. You lose me at the bah bahs..and nah nahs.
Wreckedom-the laugh isn’t villainous enough in the intro, im just not getting into this.

I'm not mad, I just didn't like your song. Sure I am jealous, I like to get votes. Does that make me a dick? At least I listened to your song. I didn't vote, cos I didn't hear all the songs, that would be unfair.
People who don't make music can still have an opinion. Mine was, you sucked.
you can call me Pete if you like

I found an okay cheater way to do this is to simply copy the vocal tracks you have recorded to other tracks and then move them slightly left or right. It's sort of a lo-fi chorus effect I guess.rdurand wrote:Thanks for the review - I agree about this second time. way to take the high road buddy. regardless of my opinion of your song, i find it hard to believe that 14 people on planet earth thought your song was the best in the fight. i dont really even remember which rap song you did, and i am not going to go back and listen to it again to find out.doorite wrote:7 people who were my friends voted, the rest, people who musta know me from my other music, and like it........furry pedro, or whatever your name is, are you mad because you are jealous, jealous just because somebody actually likes the weirdness,or do you never get votes, or if u dont make music, i guess you cant judge, hahahaha.

there were so many great songs that had great music lyrics and vocals in this fight, its just suprising you got so many votes...thats all.
p.s. jealousy was not motivation for this post.

mCRT
I find it somewhat aggrevating that mCRT won this week using a beat he did not make himself, yet in the past everytime I submitted a hip-hop song using a beat I did not make, I got TONS of grief about it from songfight reviewers. This week (Ten Lies) and last week (King Me) I made my own beats from scratch, but my songs don't sound nearly as good as the ones where I used premade beats, so I am sure they will be low rated, especially when competing against a song like mCRT's. So, it just does not seem fair. But, I guess life is not fair.
That being said, I loved mCRT's song and no matter what beat it was done to it probably should have won. So, I am not trying to take anything away from him. I am just pointing out a fact that I stated many many times in the past in these forums (but yet most songfight reviewers refuse to believe), which is that with hip-hop songs it is very common for rappers not to make their own beats.

I still haven't finished my reviews, but I gotta listen to this now and see what all this broo-ha-ha is about.
Production is great. It feels like a real professional song. I really like the arrangement too. Lyrics are retarded though. Bragging about your skills is SO 1987. And I wish there was some kind of hook or chorus or something.
So you got 7 friends to vote for you. Good for you. Let's see how many votes you get when they get bored of frontin for you, and in the interest of fairness, you vote for someone other than yourself.

your (rap) songs suck shit, dude. no one cares from whence a beat comes, you just can't f'n rap and your production is terrible. AND your lyrics suck. you bat zero. you are bottom-feeding songfight noob culture prototype one material.MC Eric B wrote:I find it somewhat aggrevating that mCRT won this week using a beat he did not make himself, yet in the past everytime I submitted a hip-hop song using a beat I did not make, I got TONS of grief about it from songfight reviewers. do you want to learn to make beats, or do you want to win fights? wtf good does winning fight do if you do it by downloading a good beat? even if you had the best beat in the world tho, YOU ARE A TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE FUCKING RAPPER.
that being said, your casiocore wesley willis thing was decent.
mcrt at least can rap and create something listenable. (if awful)
beats
Blue - People do seem to care about where a beat comes from, because I can show you dozens of posts where songfitghters kept telling me to create my own beats, not because the beats I was using were bad, but because that is just how it should be done (I do not agree with them of course).

If you don't agree with them why did you change what you're doing?
Get over it, focus on WRITING. Many of the great songs of the pop era have no beat at all (in the sense that you are using the word).

Hi!

making beats
rdurand - I went from using premade beats to making my own beats for several reasons:
First, some songfighters refused to even review my songs because I was not making my own beats, and others didn't focus on my songs but instead just commented how I did not make the beat. Since reveiws are one of the main reasons I submit songs to songfight (other than my longshot hope of ever winning), that matters to me.
Secondly, using premade beats limited me to doing hip-hop song, and I wanted to try some other musical styles (like for Couldn't Have Been Worse and Gray Rainbow), so I bought and Casio keyboard and drum machine and am using those to make music now, even though I don't have much musical skills.
Lastly, using a premade hip-hop beat may make the song sound better, but it is actually a lot harder. First, after I write the song (I always write the song first before doing the music), it takes me several hours just to find a good beat to use for it. I then need to re-write the song to fit the premade beat, in terms of the number of bars and lenght of the chorus. It also is not usally the exact bpm I want, so that makes things harder. On top of that, most premade beats don't have much of a chorus, and some have none at all (they are just loops), so that is limiting.

domains
jack - Yes, I own 10,000 domains, although I am not a really a squatter. I am more of an internet real estate developer. I own over 400 actual websites (Bored.com, Dumb.com, CheapFlowers.com, Songtapper.com, RadioLovers.com, FindVideos.com, etc.) , and create 10-20 new sites per month for myself on the domains I own. All of my domains are generic type words or phrases (like GetSongs.com for example). I do not own domains of trademarked words or of famous people, and my business is not selling domains. I only end up selling some because people want a particular domain that I own, look up that I am the owner and then email me offering to buy it.

beats
blue - Songfighters have given me advice on making beats, but most of the hip-hop beats they make are pretty amateur or weird sounding. They are not catchy hip-hop beats like you would hear on the radio.
But, that does not really matter because I do know how to make my own beats from scratch now, and although my King Me beat was somewhat amateur since it was my first try, My Ten Lies beat came out much better. It is still not up to par with the premade beats I used to use, but hopefully my beats will get better with each new one I make.
