The starting time frame isn't changing. If you can't record a song next week then you'd have been eliminated in the first round anyways. At least this way everyone who can meet the schedule gets a chance to.

Even if we didn't do round zero, we would've done round one starting on Friday....

Let me make sure I understand. First round is open to all comers?

Why don't you just kill two birds with one stone, and make round 1 open, with 20 people moving on to round 2?

It would sure suck if someone who qualifies for round one drops out by not producing a song in one of the early rounds.

That is what we're doing, just with some slightly different numbers. And because I hate all life equally, it's nice to kill two birds no matter how you do it.
rdurand wrote:It would sure suck if someone who makes qualifies for round zero drops out by not producing a song in one of the early rounds.
Yes, yes it would suck. Like it sucked last time when some of the people who "qualified" by doing nothing more than saying "I want in" failed to produce a song. Happens to almost everyone sooner or later-- life is just that complicated sometimes.

But it won't suck much! At the start we're only keeping twenty-five people, right? If one of those keepers later drops out, well, the 26th person might feel a little hard done by, but if the best you can do is 26th place then I don't feel too bad for seeing you eliminated. Because I hate you all equally.

No format is perfect, but as long as you keep writing good songs you won't be affected by how we deal with the first round or two.

I'm glad there's an open-invitation starter round. I'll be shocked if Round 0 gets 25+ entries as it is.

That said, I'm also shocked that the rules made sense to me this time around.

So does it start April 27th or May 4th?

By the way, is anyone else sizing up the judges and figuring out how they want to perform their songs? I see a lot of acoustic guitar in my future.

HaHaHa!!
There's more than one way to play a song wrong, and I'm pretty sure I know most of them.

By the way, it's too bad Meatwad wasn't available on the judging panel.
....oh the joy that would ensue.

Starting this friday! We will have Round Zero of the Nur Ein. It's an open round where only the top 25 survive to the big show.
boy, i'd hate to be one of the poor bastards that gets cut. :x
 I'm a bit nervous about this special round, to be honest. More entrants definitely means more people who are better than me. Well, hopefully I at least make it to Round 1. That would be embarassing if I didn't.

I'm glad you're in. If I recall correctly (and I could go check, but I haven't) you're the one who started the thread that turned into the first Nur Ein! last February.

Also, if I remember correctly, Roger, you're the one that started a thread to get advice on mic placement on your kit and cabs, then used that advice and turned your mixing ability and studio sound around 100%.

I think you do recall correctly - therefore there should be some sort of tradition where JR carries immunity into the opening round - sort of like how Greece always leads the march past at the Olympics opening ceremony

I disagree. The way I see it, if anyone is deserving of a first-round bye, it's the previous winner. Of course, he's a judge this time around, so it doesn't apply. So, everybody into the fray!

Plus, more free passes = less free songs.
