Well underway. Outlook for deadline: hopeful.

Tonight's primary goal: do a vocal take I can tolerate.

Man, due to the fact that I apparently cannot sing a Smiths song to save my life (even thought I've been a fan for 20+ years) we will be missing the deadline and will be entering late. Sorry to let you down j$.

OK final reminder that the deadline for this fight is today, St George's Day (waves Union Jack limply.) Midnight in whatever timezone you're in.

I will then get the songs (in alphabetical order) I have up by tomorrow evening, with a page, voting mechanism, stream and all that crapola. I will also set up a thread (seperate from this beast) for reviewage, which, as always, I encourage everyone to do.

So far 7 songs received (Cock, Eclectic Spoons, Hoblit, Jack Shite, Jim Tyrell, Melvin and my own).

Christ - nothing too serious I hope?

Heh, that's never stopped me before (or this time either!)

Damn! I was so looking forward to hearing it as well! You're not letting me down tho'. - I'm just hosting the thing!

Anyone who is going to be late (within reason - i.e. not next year) please finish up anyway and send it over as soon as you can - I will add it to the page and the stream as soon as I get a moment in my "oh-so-busy" schedule.

I may be late as my work on this song last night was an epic fail. Not very good at all. The voice was there, the music wasn't.

*Hoblit shakes tiny fist.

Whats a deadline anyways!

I know I know... I've definitely got to respect any excuse that involves Hospitalization and I totally understand getting the product right. I'm just chidin'

In light of these circumstances I may go back and fix a few vocal spots in my song. Overall I'm happy with it but I did rush that part a little.

It is now 11:59 PM Pacific Time. I think I've done better mixes. And my singing is shit, as usual. I really had no business trying to sing Morrissey.

Nevertheless, I am in.

So here we go ...

http://www.johnnycashpoint.com/smithspage

Vote, stream and invidivual links all up. 10 songs, all of which I have to admit are pretty fabulous in their own ways (bar mine of course, but hey, I tried.)

Niveous, Hell Yeahs, Sleestak and others - if you can get your songs to me by the end of the weekend, i will upload them on Monday morning. Voting is set to close on Wednesday May 7th.

Enjoy!

Yes, of course it's Paco - you've seen me play guitar - you know I can't play like that

But thank you v. much - I was very pleased how it came out. Maybe me and Paco should quit our day jobs and just tour the world as a Smiths tribute band

I'm having problems with this and I'm surprised that I am. I enjoy the Smiths alot and doing a straight up acoustic cover of "This Night Has Opened My Eyes" just didn't work out. I can get the right vocal feel but the music wasn't falling into place. So my next idea was to go creepy electronic a la XTRG. But I feel like I'm losing all essences of the original song and now I don't know what to do....

Well, the problem with Wife and Kid were not that serious. My son had to be under observation for a month. Now he and his mum are back again since a few days, but getting back to normal proves too be difficult.
I guess I have to cancel my version altogether. Maybe later, in a few weeks I am able to do something, but not now...
