I can't explain it, but calling the Downtowner "indie rock" totally broke me up. Well done.

My new job pays better than my old one. This greatly improves my odds of being able to make it. :D

Well, I've budgeted for a couple of weeks stateside and booked the time off. As long as I can find someone who wants me to play a bit of guitar in their band, I shall be present. The prospect of renewing my love affair with tater tots was what clinched it.

Hmmm.....if I remember correctly, you actually know how to play guitar. This could be the start of a biennial partnership for the ages!

Fantastic! Now we just need to convince Mo to attend, and he can play guitar for your set like in the old days! :)

It's five months away now. I started an attendance thread.

ROCK!

OK, so here's a question for those of you who have been around a while...

What's the protocol for Song Fight! vs. non-Song Fight! songs in your set? I mean, would it be OK for me to play a few songs that are not Song Fight! songs? Including "Sorry to Inform You", I'm up to a grand total of 7 entries (one of which would be almost impossible to recreate live)...at an average of about 2.5 minutes a piece, I'm looking at a whopping 15 minute set. 18 minutes if I talk a lot.

I guess it would also help to know how long the sets are going to be. It looks like they were 35 minutes last year...about the same this year?

My opinion: It's generally okay to play Song Fight!-related songs, like from sidefights or album-a-week or whatever, but consider that time is likely to be at a premium already. I don't think people will get particularly mad per se as long as you don't use more time than everyone else though. The early shows had several non-SF songs played but time was also less precious in those.

Remember that if you just want more stage time, you could always convince a bunch of people to let you sit in on their sets, and also there are going to be plenty of fights between now and the show for you to build your repertoire.

This post falls into the "who cares" category for most of you, but I will not be attending this year. Sorry Glenn.

I'm not in that category, I shall think of you as I watch men in silly hats run around an oddly shaped cricket pitch for several hours.
Please sort out that swine flu before I arrive.

Don't forget SF songs you never finished... Those are fair game (you've still gotta finish 'em, though  ).

I have to admit, I'm bummed, but I do understand. Making the trip for SFL isn't always an easy thing. You will be missed, yo.

I seem to remember 30 minute sets in Austin, but it was closer to 15-20 minute sets in Santa Cruz. It's tough to say for sure how long the sets will be until we know how many sets there are. My advice? Prepare a 20 minute set that you're happy with, and be ready to drop or add a song if necessary.

I think Fluffy has the right idea about non-songfight songs too.

ROCK!

Uh oh. That weekend my grandpa is having his 98th birthday party. I hope I'm not going to have to back out from this. :/

We're like twins! {{{HUGS}}}

Actually my grandpa's party is just in the planning stage and I mentioned Song Fight is the same weekend and so now we're looking to do it the weekend after (my parents realize how important Song Fight is to me), so, phew.

We'll still miss you, though, Frankie. I'll be sure to do my cover of your "Last Date" again, unless you would prefer that I didn't. (Or maybe I'll challenge myself to actually learn one of your other songs.)
