Re: Songfight LIVE 2008 Tampa, Hot & Sweaty
Hey - checked out the website. It says May 15-17, instead of August.
Just thought I'd give the heads-up.

Re: Songfight LIVE 2008 Tampa, Hot & Sweaty
I was doing a lot of advertising work for The Funeral Dazies at the same time which include May dates... I noticed that I had put May in one place and even corrected that. Apparently I did it twice and wasn't aware of it until you brought it to my attention. FIXED, and THANKS!Ross wrote:Hey - checked out the website. It says May 15-17, instead of August.

ok... by my calculations I have acquired enough fryer oil to run my truck on until south carolina. Is there any one planning on bringing a few hundred gallons of spent fryer oil with them that I could have?

Re: Songfight LIVE 2008 Tampa, Hot & Sweaty
maybe the tagline should be changed to "hot and greasy"
it would be funny if RP was serious and started a used-oil drive at various restaurants along the driving route to tampa, and then made a webpage/blog (w/pics of course) mapping his adventure to songfight live. he could trade promo plugs for used oil.

Unfortunately not very likely - although I admit that the reason I was checking the dates was to mildly consider it. This find me just returning from three weeks away from my family at my summer camp gig.Hoblit wrote:

exactly! come on guys... I know some of you have to live on the way from pa to fl.... and some of those people hate their lives because of the restaurant business such as I... so what do you say? hook a brother up with some oil... because I'm sure as shit not going to pay 5 bucks a gallon for diesel fuel! I'll even pitch, boil out, and refill the fryers at no cost as I go. you pickin' up what I'm puttin down? also I have an uncle in flordia somewhere who has a fishing boat. so that would be cool too.

Re: Songfight LIVE 2008 Tampa, Hot & Sweaty
I just want to say that this is still on and I want to encourage people to register. I'd like to start gathering information on who is playing and start organizing the event.
Right now I plan on there being posters but I can't move ahead with t-shirts until I'm absolutely sure that there is a demand.
I'll be updating the site this week with Tampa accommodations and more information about where *I* live in accordance to the Airport and the venue. I live about a 15 minute drive from the venue.
While I do own a car, I only have a two seater. (Toyota MR2) So I can pick up a person from the airport but I can't necessarily pick up 'people' from the airport and might like a little input from other locals on this. My uncle drives a cab so there might be something to that as well.
So, wake up !

Re: Songfight LIVE 2008 Tampa, Hot & Sweaty
so Chris, i'm definitely still thinking of trying to make it this year. Since I just started this new job, I'll have to kind of play it by ear right now (pun intended) but i'd really like to make it.
if i do come, it would most likely be solo, so i may not play and just pull a hobs and watch this year. or maybe i can convince paco to do an acoustic set with me. and maybe you?
so it's still on my radar.

Groovy, good to hear. I might be up for a simple sit in with ya. I'll have to warn you that I'm awful busy with two bands, the songfight event planning, my OWN set and a full time job. I'm not ruling out time to learn some of your material for an old fashioned acoustic sit in.jack wrote:so Chris, i'm definitely still thinking of trying to make it this year. I'm just trying to keep this thread alive and get some folks to chime up. So far it's Paco, Dre, and myself as far as sets go. Actually, Dre never said but I'd never forgive him if he didn't show up!

Re: Songfight LIVE 2008 Tampa, Hot & Sweaty
Jack - With your new job, it's understandable if you can't make it. But if you do come and want me to sit in with you, I'd be honored. And not upset if you'd rather do it by yourself. Hope you can make it!
What happened to LoO and Tweakest Suit? Weren't they interested?
And Fluffy's not coming because he knows that I'd have to beat his ass in the popcorn making challenge, not because of "it's in Tampa". Chicken.
I think I may take a train down, we'll see.

Re: Songfight LIVE 2008 Tampa, Hot & Sweaty
I defiantly plan to be there, but I was planning on coping out and just enjoy other people sets, and maybe play a tambourine on somebody’s else’s sets.Hoblit wrote: I'm just trying to keep this thread alive and get some folks to chime up. I might just have to be a man about it, and start practicing some of my own songs now. : )
Anybody needs tambourines in their set?

Re: Songfight LIVE 2008 Tampa, Hot & Sweaty
Again, I'll offer to play on anyone's set that would like simple accompaniment. Bass, guitar, whatever, as long as it's not too complicated.
Gimme a holler, and I'll start poking around with what you'd like me to do.

Bringin' the stink since 2006.

I hate to say it, Hoblit, but I so extremely unlikely that you should put me down as "can't make it". I am too broke to go to Tampa this year. Obviously, I will help out from afar in any way that I can.

I think that this will be the first year since the Fightmaster changed over to the current fightmasters that there will be no Fightmaster appearance at the Songfight LIVE event.

JB's not coming? That would be shocking. It's, like, the only time he ever leaves the house.
I'm sorry I can't make it Hoblit. For a split second last week, I thought "fuck it--I'll go" and then I realized it is the same weekend as my family vacation. I'll be in Prague enjoying some fine Czech beer.
If he shows up, don't let fluffy cover any of my songs this time.

Re: Songfight LIVE 2008 Tampa, Hot & Sweaty
Well - I am no longer without a house, we found a house we move into next week. We also found a daycare centre for my daughter, which means I can now go out and find myself a job (damn). Our house in Brisbane is on the market and if it sells soon I will have plenty of money. And after babysitting my daughter for 3 weeks while my wife went to India, and quitting my job and moving to NZ for my wife's job - I definitely have an extended weekend leave pass owing to me.Hoblit wrote: Caravan Ray (Maybe but not probable)
So while I would still only rate myself as (Maybe but not probable) - it is still in the back of my mind.
