There's a Kapitano tune in this fight too!! Sorry 'bout that.

Woah, glad you brought my attention to it .. This is great! Just like that, I'm back at a high school party, some guy's basement, with my 3-holes on and my hair dyed black. Dude, I loved Information Society!!

FWIW, your Beatles review would have looked something like:
Strawberry Fields Forever This was Lennon and Martin's most musical (and arguably, best) foray into the realm of sampling and tape loops. It works in part because the Mellotron opening sets the mood so instantly, and so completely, that listeners have no choice but to surrender control and let Lennon run the show.
Kapitano wrote:Cliche? Why are strummed guitars or real drums never called that?
'Cause they get the guitar strummers with "this sounds like Counting Crows."

I'm Ryan and I play music with Ken sometimes.

I have been in Locationx3, Mosswoodians, Freedom Fries, and maybe something else too. Ken like secrets. Which is pretty emo, if you ask me.

I should get me new avatar. I miss my old account with the avatar that Blue bestowed upon me. Baby steps.

Well, welcome back Ryan. I'll assume you were the third voice that I couldn't place in Lx3. Awesome job there!

Even though there are moments like 1:04-1:06 where I don't get a great sense of control over your voice, the stretch from 2:10-2:21 is just spectacular. And in that stretch there is one of those great lyrics whose words I can't place ("spin me around full square"?) but the tone feeds on the ambiguity of the words to create a meaning that is perhaps more pure and emotive than the real lyrics might ever be.

New Year reviews!

carol - sounds like it's being played at a slightly too-fast speed, tho i guess that's the point :) it's pretty catchy, in any case. i feel like it's too fast.

location - nice guitars. nice singing. pretty. good. i like the combination of voices on the lead and backup vox. and pretty girl vox.

historyman - quiet... the drums are pretty cool. the vox are only ok. the piano that solos around 1:45 is good stuff. i think this song is pretty interesting, reminds me of some band. i'd like to hear it covered.

clayne - awesome drums. oooh synth bassline. yessss. is there a clayne album yet? this is great. not bothered by the repetition in the chorus, like i usually am. you and idiot kings should form a group.

jack - i like the fiddle a lot. is somebody playing it? i think it's a little too loud for the mix, though. i want everything else to be louder. or that quieter, whichever. very catchy.

andre - good guitar line. vocals are pretty good! i like the buildup and the chorus. feel like the vox get lost around "let's get together" and stay lost, should retake those bits.

poorjune - sometimes i think too many keys are being hit. backwardy noises are neat. nice pads at end. good.

children of god - "children of god" makes me think of swans. thass cool. the intro is awesome. the high pitched thing over the growly guitars building is a great effect. this is a potent collaboration. did jute do music too, or just vocals? i like these vocals too. i like that i can understand a lot of it. strong entry.

roymond - haha. the chopper person is funny. this cool. arr, i'm working now. oops. great vox. good rap.

david - this is kind of neat. it seems a little lacking in energy. i appreciate it.

honest abe - very bass-heavy. the bass overwhelms the vocals. it shouldn't usually be the frontmost instrument unless you sound like Primus :) this is pretty cool, but please work on the mix/eq.

deshead - it's not capturing my imagination. sounds good. but kind of unremarkable, sorry. i do like the "no one ever cries" part and the organ.

these are probably going to be fairly succinct.

lonbobby - cool bassline. the vocals are pretty strange, but that's in the title. pretty neat.

boltoph - i like the guitar sound here. vocals have a nice laidback sound. very nice.

edgar - nice merge of 80's metal sound with a more modern sound. the rhythm is nicely headboppy.

abec - pretty nice, tho right now i want something more upbeat. this middle section loses me, as i can hardly hear it.

kapitano - love the echoey synth and the bass is great. i think the vocals should be filtered so they're kind of less there. also maybe with some longer heavier reverb. they sound pretty good, but don't quite mesh with the music. although the deeper sung vocals fit better like around 2:20. actually i'm digging this.

fluffy - good to see you recording again. the vocals on this are awesome. i like them a lot. they remind me of king missile, in the times when he actaully sang rather than talking. the guitars, too, actually. they're very nice. the echo on the vox is fitting here. awesome outro.

jimvarney - don't like the pitch shift chipmunky. interesting.

wreckdom - interesting collage-y background. guitar is good. celebrating the new year, eh? or something. not that enthused about the repetition in the vocals.

j$ - heh, nice rhythm, it's like cashpoint country. good bass vox. this is fun and different. way good on you to branch out.

dddog - not sure what's happening here.

Humbert - Damn is that awesome. I love the bass or whatever that is. I don't think the guitar is working that well. But it left quickly. The vocals are very good. The organ sound there is a nice touch. I'll have to put this on my #1 list. Nice transitions between parts to make the whole song flow smoothly.

1: carol, location, clayne, children of god, edgar, kapitano, fluffy, j$, Humbert
2: history, andre, poorjune, roymond, david, honest abe, deshead, lonbobby, boltoph, abec, wreckdom

Pickin' a winner now.

Me too. Anybody? Anybody? Bueller?

Yeah, I know the voice sucks. I'm working on that.

And yes, I still am working on reviews. They will be posted soon.

Also, I'm still wondering what slalom has to do with me song. Anybody?

So, what you're saying is my song should be distributed as Muzak, since productivity goes up when it's on?

OK pushy boy :)

Humbert - a review in 10 parts by Johnny Cashpoint

1.)Having heard the others, I think this has an element of Kapitano's entry in the droney electro-pop and the lots of fragments of bits tied together element of historyman's entry. It also has the tiniest feel of Kraftwerk's more poppy moments, which is no bad thing.

2.)I like all the parts but I'm not sure you shouldn't commit to one hook or three and work the song about it.

3.)I like your voice a lot - wavering on the tight-rope between sexy and creepy over the gorge of pop, and thre's the always the thrill that you might slip.

4.)The guitar tone at the beginning is great but I don't like the discordant nature of it. This song is crying out for a maybe slightly obvious guitar lick that remerges every so often.

5.)the synth at the very end is most cool, that should feature more prominantly.

6.)I think the relentless synth bass (which is great) probably belongs in another song from everything else.

7.)Actually, a bit more variety in the drum programming and a little less with the melody would take this up a few notches from good/interesting to pretty damn great/experimental.

8.)Great production.

9.)In all, a good song, but when the hook is 'what's gonna happen next' it's hard to get the tune to stick in the head, which is what I like from my songs.

10.) Happy now? :)

Huh? Humbert? Where did that come from? I waited till Tues night to download :)
Okay, as soon as Glyph is done it's on.

Humbert - Damn is that awesome. I love the bass or whatever that is. I don't think the guitar is working that well. But it left quickly. The vocals are very good. Ha, Negativland's "Time Zones" came on afterwards. Now that's an odd segue.

PS Time zones? I never really studied that up.
