I'm available to play back-up:

guitar (acoustic & electric)
bass
keys (but you have to give me the part well ahead of time, cause I'm not very good)
laptop
harmonica
vocals
possibly alto sax (in the process of dusting it off now)
beer

I think you will see that we will be pressed for time as it is. I think you should feel free to cover another songfight song in your set, but I doubt there will be time for a separate coverfight.

Be well,
Ken
It might be fun* if everyone had to play one song by another artist in attendance.

*It also might not be fun, depending on your opinion.

Yes, the Hoblit / Jeff dance team should again be a testament to songfight live drinking lore.

I also offer my services to anyone who needs them (especially backup vox)

And like c hack I can seriously help out with some beer.

I can vaguely sing and vaguely play accoustic guitar. And I can bash tambourines really really really well. I'm awesome at tambourine. And don't even start me on my mad crazy maraca skills. :P

Hmmmmmmmmm. Do I smell a legitimate guise for getting you to shake around? this totally makes up for not being able to see this alleged picture of you in a bikini.

To Marcus,

You can sit and play maracas/tambourines. No shakey shakey from me.

Regarding recent inquiries: As far as I am concerned, y'all are free to show up and play zero, one, or more songs that are covers of songfight entries by people who are not you. If said people (not you, remember) are also in attendance you may want to speak with them about it first to see if they have any objections, etc. If you don't, you run the risk of an all-out bar brawl occurring; there is likely to be a goodly number of glass bottles near to hand, which can be smashed and then brandished as weapons. Surely it will all end in tears.

Shaking is optional. I will see about getting belly-dancers to attend, and belly-dance. I can make no promises at this point, but, it is hard for me to imagine a true belly-dancing virtuoso not wanting to dance if I provide her a "Roymond's Greatest Hits" cd to belly-dance to.

I expect the overall format to be comparable to what occurred in Austin in June 2004, except without as much heat and, sadly, probably fewer kittens. In particular, do not count on there being any sub-events other than "live fight at end" and "play your set." If time permits, it is possible to add something else in there, but if time permits, then I would prefer to permit it to put a few extra minutes on to everyone's "play your set" instead.

Also:

Songfight Boston: Paahk yaah guitaahs in Haavaahd Yaahd.

This is probably too long for a catchy title, isn't it?

MORE THAN A FEELING

Also yeah, any extra time should go to longer sets.

My feelings as far as covers go (as anyone who has ever seen me play live can attest) is that they are awesome. In the spirit of Songfight Live, however, I think we should be limited to playing Songfight material (as has been the tradition). If you're going to do a cover, cover another fighter and not, say, Hoobstank.

provided i get the material early enough, i can play:

bass
guitar
really cool analog monophonic synth
not anywhere near as cool general midi keys
didgeridoo
theremin

also, i have access to a drummer who may be willing to learn other people's stuff.

as for the covers, i was just tossing out an idea. i don't have my heart set on anything, i'm open for whatever the masses agree on. i was thinking of maybe doing my version of the voice inside your head's "brown boxes" (with his blessing, of course) in with the normal idiot kings set; is the general consensus that doing a sf cover during your set is cool?

I'll happily play keys or bass for anyone that needs it. I'll probably be drunkenly singing along with everything anyway. POinting a microphone at me may or may not be wise.
I'd have a great time doing a cover of another SFer's song in my set, if the general consensus is that it's okay to do so.

generally speaking, i'd say pretty much anybody around here would be not only cool with somebody covering one of their songs, but rather happy about it.

furthermore i would like to state at this time i'd be more than happy to play bass for anybody who asks me! also like, backing vocals or something, if somebody's really desperate.

ummm, unless they were planning on playing the song themselves, or have decided they don't want to play that song anymore.

Adding the words "generally speaking" in front of your opinion doesn't make it true.

Just because they were planning on playing it themselves does not mean they wouldn't like it covered by someone else.
