I can authorize 100 devices for ad-hoc distribution until this is settled... so start PMing me your device IDs.

Edit: UDIDs - http://www.innerfence.com/howto/find-ip ... ifier-udid

Sounds like most newspaper apps should get purged from the store, then.

Oh man. I want to laugh but also I am sad not to have access to the app. Next time somebody says they don't like Apple's walled garden approach, maybe you'll "think different" about the subject. ;)

Maybe they think it isn't OK since it's an unofficial player for the songs on songfight.org? Maybe if it had an official stamp of approval it would get accepted? Who knows.

Also, I already sent you my UDID, so please include me in the beta test if you're going to give the ad hoc thing another shot.

I'll admit it didn't have a lot of "features" for 1.0, so I figure if I add in a few simple "actionable" things like emailing and reminders that it might pass the scrutiny.

Anyway, I'll try to get an ad-hoc build for those who have sent me device IDs sometime this weekend.

The funny part is their rejection paragraph did tell me to learn HTML.

I guess HTML5 really is the future of mobile development.

No, I think that they are suggesting that his app would be a perfectly decent webapp or website...

Maybe he could register a domain name to host this "song fight" thing at

like spud mention, could it be their suggesting you need to get data from an xml web service as a proxy, if your just doing http screen scrape ?

He's getting his data from the Song Fight! Jukebox's RESTful JSON Web services.

MG, did you post the full rejection notice somewhere? If so I missed it. Is that even allowed, I wonder?

I didn't post the whole thing because it was kind of just patronizing fluff. The basic gist was "HTML 5 is the future. You should use HTML 5. You can even have offline storage in HTML 5. Please don't develop applications for our platform."

I presume their real intention is to avoid numerous applications that all act like a web browser. I'd argue what I submitted was a bit better than a web browser could do, but I'll make sure I have inarguable reasons to appeal next time if it gets rejected again (I had the option of appealing, but did not take it).

I'm pretty sure I've already violated several NDAs at this point. :)

Well to be fair, doing your app as an HTML5 site means that it'd also work on Android and Windows Phone without any significant work, and it also means that it's not going to burden Apple's distribtion infrastructure or whatever. And iPhone users can still put a bookmark on their home screen if they really want.

correct. and it's super simple to create a webview app for almost any platform using phonegap or something similar for those who feel the need for "native" apps.

that said, is apple rejecting webviews these days?

I'm going to go ahead and post here with this account so that it doesn't get deleted for the 20th time. It's used to grab data from the forum for the app.

Nothing yet from me. My current job eats up too much of my time and motivation for there to be enough left for much hobby programming on the side. Also I think I'd probably work on a mobile Web version of the Jukebox first, instead of an Android app. (You can use the Jukebox on phones now but it's pretty hard to use on a phone/ipod size screen.)

I should probably document somewhere the Jukebox API in case anybody wants to use it...
