I used to read my local paper every night.
But then I got mad and canceled my subscription ‘cause of what they write.
I don’t trust the liberal media; no, I don’t trust them at all.
Don’t touch nothing without my Fox glove, Fox glove, Fox glove.
Don’t believe anything you don’t see on Fox;
Everything else is fake news.
I see the world through Fox-colored glasses;
They agree with all of my views.

I hate all the folks who kneel for the anthem or bike to work.
I don’t understand arugula or Lord Grantham, but I love fireworks.
Why do you hate America, why do you hate your home?
Don’t touch nothing without my Fox glove, Fox glove, Fox glove.
Don’t believe anything you don’t see on Fox;
Everything else is fake news.
I see the world through Fox-colored glasses
And I agree with all of their views.

Uranium One, Second Amendment, birth certificate, Benghazi,
Emails, Clinton, Clinton, Clinton!

I think the president is really smart. I am strongly distrustful of art.
I know global warming must be a lie; there can’t be carbon up in the sky.
Everything Russia put in my facebook was probably true anyway.

Should have been dozing restfully
Canine curiosity got the best of me
You knew my lust for botany
There was no need to threaten me

you know it’s true
I am paralysed by you
but don’t give up on me

she said she’d take me to the place
that all the dogs love
and then she stopped my heart…
like a foxglove

I tried to act respectfully
but couldn’t follow the recipe
the end result was quite messy
I hope you don’t think less of me

I couldn’t hold back,
though not wanting to upset her
I said “analog is good
but digitalis better”

The needle dropped
The aspirin popped
Though I fill these orders often,
I feel my heart stop on a dime
but only grab nine cents to start again

And that's eight cents sharp of out of tune
One bar short of hallelu-
And more beats per measure than I can produce

And I can't seem to bring my mind
To tell my heart to take its time
Foxglove, my life is on the line

Every damned decision from the start
Has been the wrong one for my heart

Failed intuition falls to recognition to enigmatic misappropriations in the dark

And as your heart defies your mind
Your body slowly falls behind
the foxglove
Is this fast enough?

Let’s talk love
I’m missing something but it’s not love
Love’s the only thing that I got lots of
If I had a piece of land then I would stop and plot some crops and hope to grow a lot of foxglove
Maybe complement it with some hostas
Put them in a box, get them boxed up
Mail it off to you and hope you’re not the kind that minds the time you got a box of foxglove

I know stupid flowers aren’t the answer
If I had super powers, it wouldn’t matter
I’m not the kind to knock your socks off
Oh well, whatever, here’s some foxglove

Avalon strolls back from Brume Wood
sweet ripe berries spill from sack
A chill sets in, she pulls her hood
But not far now from the shack

But alone she's not this cool night
Darkness stirs round about her
A growl, a knock, an owl takes flight
Pursued now runs for shelter

As teeth bare down she spies a hollow trunk and scrambles for catharsis
blocks the entrance with boulder as Avalon plunges into darkness

The days pass by, or is it weeks? The damp blackness weighs like damnation
The weakening beast prowls around the tree, both now fighting starvation

Groping around she feels a leaf
Could this be her salvation?
She takes a bite. They're good! relief!
She gorges with elation

A deathly screech, the beast falls dead
These flowers have seen her good
Sunlight bears down from overhead
she steps back into the woods

Gathers herself, takes deep breathes, Avalon still grasps the life-giving weeds
She sees the plant, steps and falls, her face ghosts white, her life now to recede

In years to come by a hollow tree, Avalon's son's with his true-love
In arm they gaze upon a burst of colour, panoply of foxglove.
