Siren Festival 2005- Who's coming with me.

For the 4th year in a row, I'm going to the Siren Festival at Coney Island in NYC. It's a free concert with 2 stages and tons of great music. This year is especially important for me to go as it'll be my last Siren as a New Yorker (I'm only moving to Jersey but still...) and it will be the last Siren with many of the Coney Island attractions as they are looking to replace them with a mall.
Siren is happening on Saturday, July 17th. They have just announced the first set of bands performing (usually there are about 14 bands at Siren):
-The Dears
-Spoon
-Mates of State
-Q and Not U
-Dungen
-VHS or Beta
-Brendan Benson
So if anyone is in the area or is willing to take a day trip to see a free concert, I'll be there (and most likely alongside my son M the Heatmiser- a fellow veteran of 3 Siren Festivals at only 3 years old!) and I'd love to meet some fellow SF'ers and share in some good music.

OK, something got in the way last year, so I will do what I can to make it there with my 5 year old, who will no doubt ask "will U2 being playing in front of the castle?" since he saw that DVD a few weeks ago and is all down with rock concerts and shit.

Well it's during my summer vacation, and NY's only up a bit, so I'll have to see if I can get my driving friends to take me up there. Sounds fun though. And hey, free stuff is always good.

Roymond-
Yeah, it's a great rock concert to bring a kid to. They get a well-needed dose of indie rock (C'mon at 3 years old, thanks to Siren, M has seen the Donnas, the Yeah Yeahs Yeahs, Electric Six, Mission of Burma, Hot Hot Heat, !!!, TV on the Radio, The Fiery Furnances, Blonde Redhead, The Sahara Hotnights, The Kills, The Thermals, and Your Enemies Friends) and if they get bored, it's Coney Island. It's got games, rides, an Aquarium, lots of food and the beach.
Bjam-
Definitely. Tell your friends to c'mon down. I'd love to meet ya.

More venues need to buy one of these for their lobby.

July 17th is a Sunday. Can you clarify the date?

OOPS, I stand corrected. Saturday, July 16th.
PS-
Hoblit, why shouldn't I move to Jersey? Actually, it's a very good thing. If you knew what my personal situation has been over the last half year, you'd been cheering the fact that I'm moving to a house in NJ.

nah nah, don't take me too seriously. It's your life and I'm no way trying to meddle in it. I'm just pulling the old New York over New Jersey cliche'. *SMILEY*

Won't be able to make the festival. VHS or Beta is a lot of fun live though. Check them out if you can.

The show just got more interesting with the addition of Ambulance Ltd., Diamond Nights and Morningwood.
I'm happiest about Morningwood as the lead singer Chantal has been one of my myspace friends for about a year now and I adore the band.

Hm, this has become a maybe unfortunately for me. July 21st my family and I are gonna be up in NY for a Broadway show, so the parentals aren't to keen to have me go up twice in one week. I'll see if I can fiddle with some stuff so I can go though.

Move here. It settles all such disputes.

I'm pretty sure my wife and I are going to come to this. I love Brendan Benson and she loves Mates of State, so we both win. Roymond, perhaps we can meet up.

Looks like I'm going to a ball game with my son and friends (in Coney Island) at 6:00, so I'll miss some of what Frankie and wife are aiming for. Perhaps we can meet up beforehand? Still a bit in flux... and Niveous - I hope we'll meet up!

Definitely. PM me about a meeting place or something of the like.

In a twist of fate, my recent hospitalization and recovery will be stopping me from spending a day out at Coney. Sorry guys. Enjoy the show.

We may or may not be going--we're kind of playing it by ear and watching the weather. Roymond, I have your cell phone number and will ring you if it looks like we're going to make it.

I guess I'm the only one that made it yesterday. A great day to be at Coney Island...a little foggy, sort of cool, not rainy. The crowd was enthusiastic but when it's all said and done...you're at Coney Island, the arm pit of NY amusement parks. It was trashed and generally scummy.
But,
Mates of State were very fun:
