OK, yikes, sorry it's looking like such a busy time! I don't actually know what's going on--I took a look to try and figure it out. I don't see any major conferences/UW events... I think it's most likely a Crossfit thing happening that week, but I guess it might also be Madison Vegan Fest, National Mustard Day, Tony Hawk Appreciation Day, or various people's weddings... (or maybe Grumpy Mike can speak as to whether UGM or something else related to his employer is happening during that time)

There are still quite a few AirBnB options open, it looks like. For anyone who is traveling in and doesn't have a hotel yet, it might be worth discussing if anyone would want to share a whole-house rental like this or this. There are some options on tripping.com too, and the various booking sites like Kayak, Hotwire, etc.

I would be up for splitting a house with folks. Getting in on that would greatly motivate me to actually book my travel.

I made sure that wouldn’t be the case because it would be an absolute nightmare. That’s later in August.

It could be this comic book convention or maybe just the combination of everything.

Funny story, my wife and I accidentally made our wedding on World Dairy Expo weekend and all the hotels were unavailable... had to get a bus from Middleton, but it all worked out fine.

Geez, I had no idea word of my attendance would cause such a housing shortage! I'm so sorry everyone.

I actually brought this to Mike's attention. It is crazy. I'm guessing this Reebok Crossfit thing is the culprit? I noticed if you click on the link and follow their hotel booking process, you can probably book a reasonably priced hotel outside of the city. (You just have to share it with a bunch of fitness maniacs.) I noticed that a lot of the hotels that are "sold out" are available through this site.

How's everything going with the hotel situation, everyone?

I'm mostly trying to figure out where I'll be staying and how I'll be getting around, ideally by sharing with other 'fighters. So I started a thread specific to that.
