Gift of Music - COVID-19 Special Edition!

Post by Mike Lamb » Tue Mar 17, 2020 12:40 pm

While traditionally a Yule phenomenon, there has been some interest in running a Gift of Music during these strange and unsettling times.

SPECIAL OPTIONAL VIRAL CHALLENGE: Choose songs which are apocalyptic or relevant to current circumstances!

DEADLINES:
- 22 Mar 2020 - Song links must be posted in this thread by 23:59 PDT.
- 23 Mar 2020 - Randomized submissions sent out via board PM
- 05 Apr 2020 - Songs submitted via email to mikelamb at sheepsound dot com by 23:59 PDT.

I am including Niveous' instructions from years past, slightly edited.

Feel free to discuss or join us on IRC at irc.us.mibbit.net channel " #songfight! "

-mikelamb

---

How do you play along?

Step 1. Post in this thread that you'd like to take part. That's the easy part! Start today!

Step 2. Post a list of 4 songs (not your own songs or SF songs) that you would like to hear someone cover. Provide links to youtube videos or other sources, especially if the song is esoteric. Put some thought into it as someone will be giving you a cover of one of those 4 songs as a gift in April.

Step 3 is for me! On 23 March 2020, I'll review the entrants and list of titles and cycle them through the Magic Sorting Hat of Utter Randomness.

Step 4. You are given the name of one of the other entrants.

Step 5. Find their list and pick a song from that list and cover it! Now, don't go blabbing about whose list you have, keep the "secret santa" tradition!

Step 6. Send the cover to "mikelamb" at "sheepsound.com." Deadline is 5 April 2020 by 23:59 PDT.

Step 7. After the deadline, I will post all the songs on a website. Everyone gets their presents of song, everyone else gets to hear the covers, and everyone stays safely sheltered in their studio! Yay!
